In muddy 2011 the camping areas were largely fine, it was the market areas, walkways and areas at the front of the stages that were the problem. And even those areas were dried out by the Sunday. Hopefully a bit of sun and breeze, or at the least a cessation from rain will sort the ground out this year.

Collected these forecasts posted today on various sites .. they'll do for me

1) "The latest forecast from the Met Office for the week ahead predicts that the rain that has hampered preparations at the Worthy Farm site will finally stop at lunchtime on Monday – and then it'll stay dry for the rest of the week.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be cloudy but dry, with those clouds breaking on Friday and the main forecast for Saturday is for almost wall-to-wall sunshine by the afternoon."

2) "There is a risk of the odd shower or two on Wednesday, but overall it does not look like a washout day," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Jason Nicholls said."

3) In fact, festivalgoers may want to pack sun cream and wayfarers for the dry days of the festival as there will be bright and sunny spells.

I'm noticing a pattern: every evening the forecast goes to shit, then we get a bit of a boost in the morning.

I can't believe how up in the air it all still is.

Fallow year though, so it makes sense.

People never really know the main reason 2008 was slow (line-up vs weather) but I bet it had an effect.

Weather & recession. It was never the line up, wasn't out before tickets went on sale

18z (evening run) tends to be more unreliable, so the forecasts being more negative at that point may not be a bad thing.

Ah balls I got 2007 and 2008's line-ups mixed up, the big fuss over Jay Z. Yeah those factors would have been the big ones.

2011 people forget also had some fairly okay moments (Saturday and Sunday coverage for example would have been full of sun)

Just been stuck at Bristol Parkway for an hour waiting for a train and watching the sheet rain that is happening right now. A man can think a lot of things in that hour, like is there a way I can make this be the last rain for a week...? Sadly I got nothing

If its torrential downpours all weekend I'd be interested to see how sales go. I don't want that for you lot though!!

I still maintain though that for the TV viewers, 2011 wasn't as bad as it was in reality for those who went.

I remember 2011 being tough going, but my overriding memory is getting sunburnt on Sunday. Then went to IOW in 2012( much worse) still bought tickets for 2013.

I didn't find 2011 that bad, if it's like that again I'd take it looking at  some of these forecasts!

Not quite a total myth. 2011 wasn't a really bad year for the mud.  2007 was and 2008 didn't sell out.
