Flysheet
Not been to Glasto for many years, done loads of Beautiful Days and Kendal Calling etc, but I'm back this year. what sort of prices are we looking at food wise so I can put some sort of budget together? Is it similar to the other two I've mentioned?
pie_and_a_pint
Last year it was nearly £5 for a pint of pisswater from the main bars. Brothers Cider and real ale were a bit less. You can take your own booze to Glastonbury though, of course. Foodwise - you can eat for free (or a small donation) with the Hare Krishnas, or you can have a sit-down meal at £45 a head. Most people go somewhere inbetween - think £7 for a main meal like a Goan Fish Curry, posh burger, veggie curry from Manic Organic, Square Pie and mash etc. Bacon and egg bap at breakfast - about a fiver. Avoid the shitburger and crapnoodles outlets by the main stages though - ripoffs abound.
Joshuwarr
Some of the food can be very pricey indeed (as mentioned above), however there are good tricks to get around spending too much: - Free food from the Hare Krishna tent. If you just want a full stomach and aren't too fussed about what you eat then hear is the place to go as they saved endless amounts of free food in the day (which can actually be quite tasty too). - Convenience shop tents. Sometimes it's just a snack you'll fancy so I find popping to the little shops they have to stock up on snacks is the best way to fill that gap. I think I remember them selling stuff like sausage rolls and pasties? Great as well for picking up crisps and chocolate if you didn't have the space to bring snacks with you. - Be willing to explore. I'm not too sure how accurate this is, but accepted convention is that food tends to be a lot cheaper away from the main stages so if you're happy to go for a little wander round then you may find cheaper grub that way. You're also more likely to find a greater variety of food that way too. - WEDGES. Always cheap and a slightly more exciting alternative to chips as the wedges stall near the Other Stage offers a variety of different toppings meaning you can probably be pretty full from just one portion
Flysheet
Cheers guys, pretty much like every other festy then. Thought that wouldbe the case
stardustjunkie
If it helps at all, I tend to take £200. I don't buy any drinks but I do tend to buy a t-shirt. I have never spent more than £10 on a meal at Glastonbury, and that's a generous meal for me. I find the meals you can buy around William's Green (hit and miss) and the Green fields area are better value and healthier than anything you can buy by the Pyramid and Other. If you get peckish then the Yeo Valley tent have yoghurt for £1 for a large pot (or they did a couple of years ago). I also take Pringles and cereal bars to keep me going. I can guarantee that you'll be spoilt for choice and there's meals to suit all budgets. Enjoy!
quiet guy
The bakery stall near the entrance to the Kid's fields is good value and later in the day they have a reduced sale of bread, cakes etc.
Flysheet
We'll have two 14 y o eating machines with us so I plan to give them a ton each and leave them to it food wise. Gonna take loads of drinks, crisps, biscuits and stuff as well. Done enough of these things over the years to know the score but it's been 13 years since I last set foot in Worthy and you tend to only hear the bad. BD and Kendal are Glastonbury in miniature tbf and I expected things to be similar
blue6field
Did Glastonbury and Kendal a year apart and found them to be very similar in price, more choice at Glastonbury and more spread about. Must say I was impresed with the food at kendal.
