Parties On Site

Hi all,

I'm arriving on site due to taking a campervan but as I'm going to be flying solo (due to drop outs and a few of my friends getting pregnant) I was wondering what the reaction (from Stewards/Security) to me taking my DJ stuff and some speakers and throwing a party on the tues night?!?

Will it get locked off straight away? Has anyone seen this done before?

thanks

S

I do indeed :)

The PA is battery powered.

Just checking. A lot of campervan (and tent dwellers) forget or don't realise that it's Just A Field, and expect to be able to plug stuff in.

I suppose a question about DJ kit makes a change from hair straighteners ;)

depends if you are playing a massive amount of drum and base and are camped next to us, then we would be on it like  a car bonnet. If you rock up and start pounding out some Back street boys, or (shudders) scouse house. I will be running to the site people and complaining.

as others have said depends on your neighbors if they have kids with them. what you are playing, how many people are there

blah blah blah

Tuesday in East is a day of arriving, setting up, having a drink, a BBQ, chatting to new neighbours, etc etc so very relaxing and fairly quiet!

You will be surrounded by very close neighbours.......food for thought!

Depends how loud it is and how close any neighbours (villagers) are. The festival have noise limits/restrictions in place.

I can also imagine you'd piss off your fellow campers if they don't like what you're playing or just want a quiet night before the mayhem starts. On the flip side, some campers may love it.

Also on the packing list on their website it says do not bring sound systems.

The lads next to me in CV West last year had the security come round and threaten to confiscate their stereo (not even sound system). They also searched their van and took away all their booze (glass bottles) and their stash of 'erb from under a pillow.

Don't expect your sound system to be loved by the bizzies...

These are concerns. I think I'll ask my neighbours if they mind.. wont be a mental affair too much I dont think.

Would be gutted if my stash was taken....

Perhaps time to think of the festival packing mantra: if you can't afford to lose it, don't bring it.

I think that if I was camping in the campervan fields, I'd look on Tuesday night as the last chance to get any decent kip before it all kicks off the next day. Doubt very much I'd appreciate the van next to me starting up a sound system.

no need for an early night really tho, as there's not much point rushing first thing in the morning.

Have a lay-in instead, while the queues of campers take a few hours to clear and then walk thru in 5 minutes without queuing.

Hadn't thought of that :) Mind you, don't know why I'm arsed, I'll probably be trying to sleep in my car before joining the queue at stupid o'clock.

We normally get a few pa's running in our cv east field pitch by Tuesday late afternoon/evening and also on and off for the duration of the festival. If we're even at the pitch over the festival it normally gets turned down or off by 2amish because we're all in our 40's and 50's and need our sleep more than most. Also there's something quite strange about the east cv fields in that loud noise doesnt seem to drift further than about 50 yards, seriously.

It's not like an earthquake by any means but it's a decent clear sound with some satisfying quality bass which can make your eyes water and shake your hair a bit. For anyone that's interested we play anything from Glen Miller to Motorhead to Barry Manilow and literally everything inbetween, as well as some classic rave/d&b/jungle tunes from the 90's thrown in for good measure. Pink Floyds also a favourite but that's my brother who insists!

We've never had any grief from any jobsworths or neighbours, quite the opposite, we've had a good few compliments and a few impromptu breakdance burnups with passers by. The only bad thing we've found is that it's attracted a few dodgy ticketless types or others that have been ejected from the festival. No real problem though, they soon move on when they figure out we're not pilled up, selling mdma by the kilo or selling our wristbands.

Good luck, have fun and bring on the bass, it's a party....but you're not the only person in the field so be polite and turn it down if you're asked to.

Actually, having reread what your plan is for the Tuesday night my direct advice would be.... as long as it's not a thunderous system I doubt you'd get any probs from security. However, if you're actively attempting to set a up a small rave party and attracting a large crowd then I'm guessing that'll get frowned upon quite quickly because of the licencing rules and regs.

This is always the plan. But once you're there...

As for the OP's query, there are always people playing stereos etc in the CV fields, as long as you're not too loud (or too late) no-one is likely to mind. Everyone is there for a music festival after all. Although you may be unlucky enough to have grumpy neighbours or busybody stewards, in which case give it up and just wander to the top of the Hill of Death for the view of the site - easy enough to get chatting to people there.
