Lost 1.5lb at weigh in on Monday.  If I can replicate it this week I'll be up to a stone and a half.

2 stone by the festival dream is still alive. 6 weeks and 8.5lbs is possible, maybe not probable as I have quite a few parties coming up.

Hello,

I've been shifting weight with a plan to lose 21 lb in 21 weeks (taking me up to the week of glastonbury). Lost a stone so far and with 6 weeks left, I need to get my ass in gear to shift this half stone...do-able but I have a holiday booked for 2 weeks time too.

Trying to up the walking now in preparation - doing a couple of miles each day but should really try to increase that. Anyone have any idea how many miles we walk on average per day while at the festival?

Good luck to everyone with their goals!

congratulations on the loss so far, that's excellent work :)

as for how far you walk, it really varies, last year I had my phone tracking my steps and it told me on the Saturday I did just over 18 miles

but that does include dancing steps I made after midnight on the Friday where I was up until about 6am stomping

Probably at least 10miles per day - someone's probably said further back on this thread.  I'm trying to get a really long walk in each weekend

Seeing as my avatar only reveals my right ear and the side of my head, here's a Get Fit story from last night.

I played squash (my second game back after having a few weeks off through injury). By the end I was absolutely knackered (an expected reaction after 45mins of squash, however this was far worse than usual) and couldn't figure out why.

To put things into context I had dropped the Dom-Bomb on Monday night (that's a Domino's for those not ITK) and as much as I find the taste incredibly satisfying, it never sits well with me afterwards. I'm guessing you know what i mean by that.

Anyhow spent some time in the bathroom Monday night and Tuesday morning, then some more at work and honestly just felt it was a slightly worse than usual reaction to the Dom-Bomb. I thought it's ok, squash will sort me right out.

Then the aforementioned happened. This is after being hit by the ball in the side (rarely happens believe it or not) so hard a grown man was brought to the verge of a full-on breakdown. You know that sting that you know is coming, and that one second before the pain hits seems like a bit longer than it actually is, and then THAT pain hits. Yeah, that pain lasted a good 30-40 seconds, and I didn't feel the same afterwards until at least this morning. My (squash) partner had also taken a small chunk out of my right-hand third finger by hitting me with his racket (as if the ball wasn't enough... sick bastard) before I had also managed to smash my own shin with my own racket. I have to say this is incredibly bad luck for all those things to happen during one game.

Anyway, I finished the game, and as I have stated was battered and knackered way beyond the norm. I was stumbling about everywhere, dizzy, thirsty, heart still racing 20 minutes later. Got home, went to the bathroom some more. Head pounding.

Then it clicked. I have a stomach bug. I was already dehydrated, and the squash had dried me out good and proper.

Moral of the story - I'm not really sure, just needed an outlet tbh and the story seemed to vaguely fit in with the topic of this thread.

P.S. Dom-Bombs are safe.

P.P.S. Squash is not.

honestly I was expecting that story to end with some brown shorts, obviously for your sake I'm glad it didn't

I'm an honest man so i'll tell you now i'm a little disappointed

Ah I'm sorry to disappoint! Couple of near misses but aside from that I spared myself the embarrassment. Should it ever happen though don't worry you'll be the first to know.

lost 2lbs this week, if I can keep that up between now and Glastonbury then i'll be buzzing

I also went for another run this morning which went really well, managed a full 20 minuets without feeling like a needed a break at any point, i feel like i'm getting back into the swing of it

i got to play with a foam roller on Sunday which seemed to really help so i'm now looking into investing in one to help me along, buying exercise stull always seems to keep me motivated

Another pound off giving me a total loss of 1st6.5lb. So close to another slimming world sticker which was a bit frustrating.

Getting to a 2 stone loss by the festival is looking increasingly unlikely but I'm just going to chip away at it as much as possible.

How's everyone else doing?

Does anyone have any experience with a ketogenic diet?

It's essentially a no carb diet, I've been doing it for 4 days now, haven't had more than 5g carbs per day and  I am blown away by how energetic and great I feel, water weight has come off so lost 5lbs in those 4 days, fingers crossed I'll lose a stone before Glasto!

As you can imagine, having 0 carbs is an absolute nightmare but I'm enjoying it so far.

They certainly work, but it depends on what exercise you're doing. A high-protein low carb diet is the norm in numerous sports (boxing etc) but you need 'some' carbs. I think cutting anything out of a diet completely isn't sustainable long-term, although you'll certainly see quick results.

I lost 5 kgs in 5 weeks in Jan/Feb, and I'm afraid it wasn't rocket science, I stayed off the booze & hit the gym hard! Now that I'm not being as disciplined, it's certainly harder to shift.

Oh, and I swear by protein shakes and a daily nutri-bullet packed full of veg while training. Easy and quick way of getting large amounts into your body and helps recovery.

well done - that's a pretty epic amount! Feels good doesn't it?!

I had a half kilo per week target from Jan and I put a sign above my scales in the bathroom with the weekly target and in big letters; "WORK, FAT BOY" - it did the trick! :D

Although forget weight and certainly BMI as much as possible - body fat is the best way to measure the changes in your body. Weight can fluctuate for all sorts of reasons, dehydration being one.

I think we are on about the same rate then. I feel so much better for it and it's not even been that hard. I've definitely made new habits rather than crash dieting.

Actually going to work out body fat% this week. I have my measurements from before too so can compare. Weight was a good first thing to tackle but once I'm at "target"  the focus needs to shift to fitness.

Rather childishly I do want the sticker and certificate saying I lose 2 stone though! (It's shiny!)

I have been on a diet for three weeks now , lost 8 lbs. not that I am heavy just trying to get rid of my gut so I can stand there with my vest on and not block out the sun from all them around me.

should be easy. i run 50 miles a week. but i eat a shit load

Happy to say that I've been on a low carb, mid protein, high fat diet for 11 days and in that time I've lost 11.2lbs. Delighted with my progress, obviously lots of this is water weight.

I don't expect a ketogenic diet to be a long term viable thing but I'm happy I'm on one to get in shape for Glastonbury. Been walking quite a lot so I'm sure that's helped, I'm thinking another 10lbs is possible from here and Glasto!

I'm a bit late to the party and I swear I have posted on every single one of these 'get fit for Glasto' threads every year for the last 6 years with such good intentions and have then been a bit shit

I am a serial yo-yo dieter and have been my whole adult life.  I was 6 stone lighter back and a size 8 back in 2008 and have gained and lost up to 5 stone of that over the last 8 years.  I joined Slimming World back in March and am so far 2 stone down and hoping for another stone off before the festival and another stone off once I'm home will see me back in the healthy range.  Its actually been pretty easy and even though its Slimming World with unlimited carbs blah blah blah, I do try to keep them quite low and have adapted it to a more primal type of diet - basically veg, fruit, meat and fish but not being so restrictive that I think 'fuck it' if I stray a bit.  I like the whole accountability of having to stand on the scales of doom every week.

I am so looking forward to not feeling absolutely knackered - even with a couple of stone still to go I have seen a massive difference in my fitness levels.  Last year I thought I was going to die having to walk from Gate D right across to where the onsite police are located - possibly THE 2 furthest points away from each other!

I hope everyone else is doing well and looking forward to a much less shattering festival

You are definitely not too late with 5 weeks to go and a few of us having a tough bank holiday the other week.

Well done so far! I love slimming world, has really made a huge difference to how I feel. Hoping it helps lugging my stuff across site 5 weeks today.

Also, does anyone have a good body fat % calculator to recommend? I'm getting wildly differing numbers as most don't take into account my height or the difference between my hips and waist (the gap has increased).

Went for a run yesterday for first time since October

ALL THE HURTS

Congratulations on doing it tho, I went last week for the first time... over a year :o  So painful.

Hopefully going out tonight too. I found that coming home from work and getting changed into my running gear straight away makes it harder to just not bother going out.

EDIT: Congratulations to everyone who's making the effort!

Well done to everyone who is still on it or trying to be, I have slowed down quite a bit over the past month, lots of works events and meals out have taken their toll, but only have 3.5lbs to go before my mini goal of the weight I wanted to be at for Glastonbury, which sounds fine but I have a week in italy eating pizza and ice cream to contend with at the beginning of june so suspect that 3.5 may go up a bit before it all comes off.  Then another stone to go after GF to get to my ultimate goal weight.  I will do this!

for a while I used to get changed into my running gear at work at the end of the day, that way if I wanted to bail on the run I had to accept the shame along with it

I run in the mornings now which is even easier because if I've woken myself up early to go for run I might as well actually do it, I'm not one for being woken up for nothing

I did the same for a while and it was great - really wakes you up for the day and you don't have the evening exercise hanging over your head.

Can't be arsed now though ;)

I am actually really enjoying it, and am eating FAR FAR better than I have done in years.  My problem has never been being a greedy bitch - I don't and never have eaten huge amounts.  I just graze all the time on the wrong stuff.  I'm cooking from scratch for the first time in ages and not just grabbing the first thing I can find out of the cupboard or fridge.  The only thing I do really miss is crisps.  I tend to use my syns in whatever I am cooking and I'll snack on cooked chicken instead.  I don't follow Slimming World to the letter - there are lots of things I don't agree with such as a healthy avacodo having a shit load of syns yet you can stuff down your throat as many Muller Lites with all their unnatural crap in as you like.  I really enjoy my Saturday morning at fat club and all the people that go.... and don't even get my started on how proud I am off my certificates and shiny stickers :D

As for the body fat calculator - Even when running 60km a week I never really bothered with it as I don't think any of them are hugely accurate.  I'm just happy I am getting in to clothes a couple of sizes smaller
