Keith Giles Sycamore Ave
Dear Sir, I understand I can ask questions about Glastonbury here and I'll receive an answer from the festival. Thank you. My granddaughter has her heart set on attending Glastonrbury Festival but I've heard some very worrying things. Firstly what is a mosh pit? I've heard some very worrying things about girls being raped. My question is what is a mosh pit? There is absolutely no way I will allow my granddaughter to go to Glastonbury if she may be harmed. Regards, K Giles

Regards, K Giles Crime always seems to be going down at the festival and incidents of sexual assault or rape are not something I've ever heard about at Glastonbury. A mosh pit...well, think of lot's of people near the front of the stage where musicians may be performing and the people watching are dancing in a frantic way that involves people bumping into each other. Kind of like a load of moths near a lightbulb. Nothing to worry about x

Dave F.
First off, this site has no affiliation with the festival organisers. You'll get responses from those who go &/or work there. You don't give your granddaughter's age. Let's assume she's of legal drinking age. Do you allow her to go out on the town late at night? Is so, then you should have no concerns about Glastonbury Festival, which, in comparison with most city centres, is a much safer place to be on a Saturday night/Sunday morning. Glastonbury is a large festival, but is densely populated. You're never more than a few metres away from the nearest person There are police wandering around the site throughout the event: http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/advice/police/ https://www.glastonburypolice.co.uk/ There's also plenty of stewards positioned all over the site. They also have basecamps (little caravans) dotted around the place (pink dots) where you can get help & advice: Edit: At £230+ The vast majority of punters are far too busy making sure they get every pennies worth of fun to waste time causing trougble. incident
I can't believe a couple of people have actually given serious answers.. I thought I was bad for occasionally responding to even blatant trolls.
Nobody Interesting
I thought a mosh pit was where you put up your gazebo and set up your picnic.

I'd considered preceding my response with "On the off chance this is a legitimate query..." but over the years I've been asked similar questions by so many concerned parents with a distorted perspective on the festival vs the real world. I would hate to find out someone was prevented from attending due to ignorance & fear. I'm unsure posting about the police presence & stewarding could be considered feeding... It's possibly the most blatant fishing attempt I've seen in years - I'm not sure how there's any other conclusion to be reached.
Dr Green Thumb
Don't worry she's 15 years too late for a real mosh pit at glastonbury. Best iv been in in recent years was the selector in the Avalon stage in 2014 and 90% of people in that pit where over 40. So come on everyone, stop worrying about messing up your hair

Older guy out of his head barged into someone who squared up to him. Bit of pushing and shoving and then a young guy (who I assumed was his son) dragged him away. After about 5 minutes the son brought his dad back to apologise - class!!!!
Spindles
Nice I didn't mind a good mosh pit in my younger days, but Mr Ave need not fear. His imaginary relative is quite safe from the dangers of the festival she's not attending.
