Alan_C
Sorry if this topic has been done to death (don't usually venture into this section). Boredom has brought me to do this. 1.Oasis - Definitely Maybe 2.The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses 3.The Kinks - The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society 4.Pulp - Different Class 5.Blur - Modern Life Is Rubbish 6.New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies 7.David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust 8.The Libertines - Up The Bracket 9.Suede - Dog Man Star 10.The Smiths - Meat Is Murder I did want to fit Is This It, The White Album, The Specials and a lot more in there. Amy Lawn
1. Los Campesinos! - Romance Is Boring 2. LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver 3. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy 4. Joanna Gruesome - Weird Sister 5. Massive Attack - Mezzanine 6. Sharon Van Etten - Tramp 7. Paul Simon - Graceland 8. The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns And Fifteen Winters 9. Joanna Newsom - Ys 10. Owen Pallett - Heartland Subject to change all the time, was struggling between Heartland and 65dos' We Were Exploding Anyway for the last slot, but Owen got it largely by virtue of me just having listened to it this afternoon. It's always in flux, but I'd say the top 3 are pretty cemented by now. Would've called Graceland and Mezzanine my top 2 a few years ago, but I've started to really feel the value in remembering an album coming out and holding onto it, so that's why there's 4 albums from 2010 - the year I was 18. Not that it was even a great year, it was a pretty shite year, but the great albums and gigs that took me out of it for a little while have stuck with me more. Maybe in titling i suppose. It is favourite albums, there isn't much subjective about it. Definitely Maybe is my favourite album ever. It was the album that really made me take notice, and it lead me to all sorts of paths of music. I still love it today, and songs like Rock 'N' Roll Star, Columbia, Supersonic and Cigarettes & Alcohol will continue to be the soundtrack to great moments in my life. It's a great album, even if you don't like what they produced since.
FuzzyDunlop
Favourite albums have to mean something to you. Im 32. Definitely maybe came out when I was 10 and was the first album that I loved that I didn't just record from my parents. By some distance it's my favourite album. I saw Oasis at Maine Road with my dad 20 years ago last month and then saw them at the GMEX in december 1997. The first gig I went to with my mates. If I didn't go to that, I might not be going to gigs and clubs or writing this now... any way Top 10 favourites (not necessarily "The best") 1. Definitely Maybe - Oasis Another few to put somewhere amongst favourites: The queen is dead, Led Zep II, Dark side of the Moon, Different Class, Music for the Jilted Generation, Nimrod (yes Green Day), Hunky Dory, Nevermind the Bollocks, The Stone Roses, Homework and Funeral And mentions to 3 compilations... Gatecrasher Red, Eddie Halliwell - Bosh, Carl Cox Space Ibiza 2004 Mixmag. Favourites... not "best". Edit... I forgot funeral! In the end I had to start pitting similar albums off against each other. I mean, do I really need Selected Ambient Works and Northern Exposure? Just Another Diamond Day and I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight? It's tough.
grumpyhack
Not in any particular order. What We Did on Our Holidays - Fairport Convention Atom Heart Mother - Pink Floyd Songs from a Room - Leonard Cohen Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix Sgt Pepper - The Beatles High Tide and Green Grass - Rolling Stones (OK I know it's a compliation) The Rock Machine Turns You On - OK another compilation After this it would hurt my brain too much to select single albums so it would have to be more greatest hits compilations from Van Morrison, Nina Simone and The Who. Winslow Leach
OK, I think this is it, in no particular order. I’ve included 2 EPs as one entry, and if you don't like that then you can fight me. Burial- Rival Dealer EP & Kindred EP Godspeed You! Black Emperor- Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven Nick Drake- Pink Moon Aphex Twin- Selected Ambient Works 85-92 Ruff Sqwad- White Label Classics Los Campesinos!- We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed Madvillain- Madvillainy DJ Kicks: Kemistry & Storm Richard & Linda Thompson- I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight John Taylor, Norma Winstone, Kenny Wheeler- Azimuth The first 4 or 5 are pretty much set in stone, the last one is one that I fell in love with last year and I can definitely see staying in the list for the long haul. At the moment I'm absolutely loving Bougouni by Nahawa Doumbia and I'm sure it'll be a contender for a spot on the list in the future but for now I've got to give it some more spins and see how it holds up over time.
