Radiohead Headlining 2017

Whether it's my head or my heart saying this I agree that Radiohead are nailed on.
Also everything about the Ed Sheeran slot seems to make sense so I'm confident in saying I think that'll also happen.

So that just leaves one spot and I would be a little surprised if it wasn't a female act. ***

A lot of emphasis has been made recently on female representation at festivals, especially headline slots and Emily I believe has commented a few times on wanting to increase current numbers. After the success of the Adele booking (didn't go to see her as it wasn't really for me, but from what I've heard her set was all round well received by both those at the festival and those at home) I find it difficult to see them not trying to progress further with this. Hopefully if this is the case we end up with a Kate Bush and not a Taylor Swift (or artistic equivalents of both).

***Disclaimer - I realise that this is a sensitive issue and probably deserves a thread of its own. Whether you think the issue of female representation is right or wrong I am merely stating that I believe they will look to get a female headliner, not trying to start a heated debate.

Emily's said that, but then Dave Grohl had to break bones before she gave Florence her due last year. Not that Glastonbury aren't in the business of giving female artists a spotlight, they clearly are; but they're really not currently in the business of giving somebody a headline spot unless they're properly bankable. The issue is that there's not really any ready made headliner-level female artists who are looking like they'll be available next year. Taylor Swift doesn't look to be releasing an album this year, so most likely wont be touring in time for next year's Glastonbury. We're never getting Kate Bush, so abandon all hope. There's not really a lot of other options out there.

However, there is one headliner-sized female artist who may well be in the in the frame for next year. Top of my wishlist

Part of me still thinks we'll get a Talking Heads reunion one day (admittedly a stubbornly naive part of me) so a Kate Bush headline slot is easily achievable in comparison!

Mainly because I don't think Talking Heads are big enough to headline if they reformed. Doesn't give me pleasure to describe a world Muse can headline all three nights, but Talking Heads couldn't even if they reformed, but that's what I think.

Neither going to happen, so pretty academic.

I don't think they're big enough to headline either. If a reunion happened it'd be West Holts for sure. But Glasto aside a reunion of any kind would make my life complete.

But yes the logical side of me tells me that this hypothetical isn't even worth discussing so as you were guys...

I do wonder about Other, if LCD can do it, then maybe Talking Heads could.

Talking Heads would headline the Pyramid if they were to play, no doubt. If they weren't seen as a big enough draw for the top bill then I'm sure they'd find themselves at another festival rather than at another stage (if they didn't follow the money anyway) but I'm sure the hype surrounding a reunion would make them a big enough draw.

Academic, but no fucking way.

Coachella have like $10m waiting for them whenever they wish to reunite and that's the top line fee they have reserved for Pink Floyd, The Smiths and Led Zeppelin (and the GNR reunion that happened this year) so it wouldn't be a two-bit Field Day reunion type thing. Granted, that's in the US and they might be bigger there (I don't really know if that's the case) but the hype surrounding their reunion would certainly have them headlining major festivals worldwide even if people are just being convinced it's what they need.

David Byrne could headline WH on his own, couldn't he? No way could I see Talking Heads on there.

Size-wise I'd probably say Other headline? but I don't think they'd take it. If they ever reform it'll be headline slots only, I'd expect.

Don't think they'll ever reform anyway so probably all irrelevant.

aye David Byrne would definitely headline WH himself. as for Talking heads, if they ever did reform i doubt they'd be appearing at Glastonbury - i'm sure another festival would give them a better offer and a guaranteed headline slot. probably a little too niche to headline Glastonbury despite how highly regarded they are

A guy behind me at NOS Alive said: "Ful Stop is the new Idioteque, people just haven't realised yet."

Thoughts?

Well they were both shite live that day so he may be onto something.

Not as great as idioteque though, the verses are quite average. The truth will mess you up part is my highlight of AMSP though

I thought they were both great live that day  Ful Stop especially!

Ful Stop is fucking intense and wicked. Having seen it live twice it hasn't quite lived up to the gloomy, moody album version, but it is still very good. Unlike Idioteque, however, they haven't transformed it into a new animal. Idioteque live is very very different to the studio version. And I love both.

I can see that. A pair of #spookybangers. Idioteque obviously built its rep as a live favourite though so they'll need to keep Ful Stop in the set and start nailing it regularly to put them both on the same shelf.

#spookybangers

Brilliant!

Sounds a bit #philipasvan though.

Idioteque is my favourite Radiohead live song but where we were at Nos the sound was awful. All the bleepy bloopy songs just didnt sound right at all.

The highlights were the 'quieter' ones ), in particular Nude, Exit Music and Daydreaming

The sound must have been a lot better where we were stood then, but I agree that the quieter songs were stunning. Nude and Exit Music were just phenomenal.
