Given The Bends is the only decent thing they've ever done, it would be nice to see them play just that, finish early and then give everyone a chance to watch something else

I don't downvote - the whole concept just doesn't resonate with me. So I haven't.

But why would you post that?

Trolling is such a ridiculously childish way to waste one's time. Why not give your opinion on Radiohead and have a discussion about it - one of this forum's greatest qualities is that it demonstrates hugely varied opinion on almost every facet of music.

Or are you inadequately capable of doing that?

That's the only album worth shouting about in my opinion....its not a troll. I find the other stuff, particularly the newer albums, while some of it pleasant, just noise. I've seen them before a couple of times at festivals and they seem one of those bands who like to play the obscure stuff rather than things casual fans would want to hear....call it Bob Dylan syndrome.

I'm holding out for A Tribe Called Quest to headline Friday at WH.

On a lighter note....

Well, fair do's for responding. It's just that you are likely to attract a come back when you post something that flies so much in the face of opinion and history.

I like Radiohead. Quite a lot. I'll almost certainly watch them on the Friday, but I'm no obsessive super fan (and I know that, as I live with one - Child 3). To say that The Bends is 'the only decent thing they've ever done' is just plain silly. Whether one likes them, or the album, OK Computer is considered one of, if not the, finest rock record of the 90's and still frequently hits the top 10 in lists of the best albums of all time. Unlike many/most bands, Radiohead have never presented themselves as a band to 'just play the hits', either at their own gigs, or festival sets, but they are also not guilty of playing obscure material for the sake of it. They currently have around 60-70 songs that are performance ready, from which they select 22-24 for a show, always changing it up. I find that unbelievably refreshing and professional, compared to the model of same songs, same order, same old, every night, that is adopted by SOOOO many bands.

Obviously it's a matter of opinion and we're all entitled to that, but your assertion that they have nothing of quality in their canon other than The Bends is plainly ridiculous. And if you like that record, spend a few evenings becoming acquainted with In Rainbows and you might surprise yourself...

Take care

You sound like my mum when she used to run up the stairs to my room at breakneck pace and burst into my room and shout at me to "turn that stuff off!" 'cos she "had people round".

"It's just...NOISE!"

Nowadays she feels a right dunce and realises she was wrong and does the Lotus Flower dance as penance whenever I tell her to.

Do it. Do the dance. Do the dance, dunce!

Great comment Ben.

I love Ben to bits, but the temptation to wrestle him to the ground and cuddle him lovingly whilst he's dashing towards a tightly scheduled techno act he adores would almost be overwhelming.

I wouldn't though.

But I might.

No, I wouldn't.

Oh fuck...would I?

no.

I might.

No I wouldn't.

(nice dream) or Black Star would be ace.

YES!

Two of my favourite of The Bends. And to think I used to skip (Nice Dream) years ago! That ending....

I love Black Star, but I can't see it coming across as well live as it does on record.

Praying for Telex, FPT,  The Bends, (Nice Dream), Just or Street Spirit!

But you do want them to open with planet telex though surely?

This is pretty damn exceptional. You've made me seriously want this as the list. That opening run of 8.....

Swap Decks Dark for Planet Telex. That's literally the only thing I can pick at!

Edit: Oh yeh and find a sport for 2+2 and Talk Show Host, but that's asking for a bit much!

That is very lovely indeed, would walk away from the Pyramid quite fulfilled with that run of tracks. Getting Fitter Happer in at the beginning is a great touch.

Imagine being all like 'I dig The Bends, but OK Computer is too challenging and avant garde a listen for me"

You reminded me of this sketch from BBC a few years ago, I'm sure it's been posted on here somewhere before...

I would be tickled pink (or, indeed, purple...), dear Aki, if those delayed chords wah-wah-wah'd their way over the hallowed fields of Avalon to open the set.

In fact, Child 3 (Kid C) and I were recently remarking on just how phenomenal Radiohead are at creating album opening tracks. That run of Telex, Airbag, EIIRP, Sardines, 2+2=5 and 15 Step. For my part I certainly couldn't think of another run of six records opening pretty much flawlessly...

I've thought this a few times before too! All those tracks set the tone for what's to come so well. I still think Bloom is a great opening track and one of the stronger songs on that album but acknowledge that previous run is absolute gold!

I don't know why, it's irrational and silly, but my subconscious will not allow any obvious positivity towards any aspect of TKOL! It's almost like I've erased it from history and moved straight to AMSP.

That's it. I'm a Limbs denier...

Haha that's fair enough, when I was at uni I got a friend into Radiohead when King of Limbs came out.. it's still his favourite album. I can't quite fathom how it's possible but I kind of like how it's possible for someone to be really into that album in a way I've always struggled to be.

Also top notch on wanting Telex first, it's definitely my opener of choice on my dream setlist.
