Spectre is a good argument against Dental's 'they've lost it' assertion - absolutely gorgeous tune.

It's okay. Just a Bond tune innit - quite Bondy. I wouldn't use that in my argument for them being past it because they're confined to making a song for a James Bond movie rather than what they'd normally put out.

Just went and listened to Spectre again. In what world was Sam Smith's song considered better?!

To be fair the film was shite and they probably realised it wasn't worthy of the Radiohead version. What a bitter bitter disappointment the film was after the greatness of Skyfall- I could help but laugh out loud when the main villain revealed his motivation and decades of intricate plotting (that made no sense might I add) was all because he was jealous that his dad took bond out hunting rather than him when they were kids! Pathetic!

Yeah was an awful film and I'm glad Radiohead weren't attached to it. Sam Smith was far more fitting in that respect.

All Bond films are ridiculous really, (some more than others). And I love them all because of it. Being honest he should have died from liver damage or syphilis years ago.

Stopped reading at 'five classic albums'.

Five classic albums is fair enough surely?

Bends, OKC, Kid A, In Rainbows and then one out of HTTT/Amnesiac/AMSP as the classics?

Not unreasonable - obviously PH and TKOL don't even qualify.

All I can think about lately is Lotus Flower being whipped out in the second song, and 100,000 people going ape shit, dancing Thom Yorke style like the video.

And to think I wasn't a fan of that tune when it first came out...

The bends above HTTT and Amnesiac?? What utter madness is this??

Thing is, they're broadly similar bits of music - fragile falsetto piano ballads with Bond-esque strings.

I wouldn't say either one is substantially better than the other one, and Adele's is better than them both.

You can't really judge a Bond song in isolation, you can only really assess whether it works when viewing it in the cinema with the accompanying visuals.

Can't imagine Radiohead's version set to a procession of naked lady silhouettes.

It does help that Skyfall's titles are a series high point, while the oily octopus of Spectre's....aren't.
