Radiohead Headlining 2017

for me they're a bang-on Sunday act - hits, sing-a-longs, old timer (like the locals the sunday headliner is mostly booked to satisfy), etc, etc.

Friday isn't impossible cos they've got the day free, but Sunday would need an act who better-fitted the locals expectations, and it's hard to see who that might be.

They're nailed on for Sunday in my eyes if they're playing.

Ah come on, don't be doing that to me...

I've had them nailed on for weeks

I've had them nailed for weeks too, and in the messaging of various people I've just done I've just been reminded that someone seemingly in the know messaged me at around the time their shows for next year was announced, to tell me he's heard they're signed and sealed.

Unfortunately that geezer hasn't said anything astounding to me yet which clearly demonstrates that he's really in the know and not just taking some easy guesses (tho sometimes contrary to my view of the time), so I'm treating it cautiously for the mo - tho I do think he's very likely on the level. I just don't know with the certainty I feel I need to take his word as certain.

I was just being extra-careful with my words there, because if I'd not included the part you bolded that's me saying they're definitely playing - and I'm not read to commit to that just yet, even tho I'd be hugely surprised if they're not.

Yeah I see what you mean. Even though I live in false hope every year I would be genuinely shocked if they didn't do it this time, it seems right

I think more info on it will slip out through various channels on it over the next couple of months. There are certain people closely connected who usually can't help but spill information, including one of the band members

Have your messages revealed anything more re: Radiohead, or just the same old?

Reckon so. Expensive init and loads of other places I wanna try before long, so I'll see how fallow year goes before definitely handing my place over to the more affluent.

I have a feeling a lot of people are thinking the same thing. I wouldnt be surprised if a lot of regulars give up after next year (festival regulars, not efests regulars I mean).

It's bound to be at least £250 next time, plus £50 for parking. It's getting eye-watering.

a £250 ticket and £110 bus from Glasgow does look grim on papers, i find it even harder to contemplate ever getting to the stage where i think Glastonbury is too expensive to the extent i don't try for a ticket

Not bad for a 5 day holiday really!

I used to think £20 to park somewhere for a few days, bargain - but now I can compare it to parking for the same period in some town centres - and with it getting toward £50 I'm thinking fine, but no longer a bargain.  And ticket price, used to be bugger all difference to Reading and way more for your money - still way more for your money but a gap is quickly opening up between the two in terms of price.

All the eFests regulars will be packing it in because the "it's definitely Radiohead next year" finally comes off and there's no reason to continue.

But aye, I have seen a few more opinions similar to mine on it and it seems that this has turned into a throwdown now "don't like the price? don't go" has been uttered so it's certainly way more of an issue this time around.

EDIT: apologies Thunderstruck I misread the above post!

I think they're doing Saturday. Saturday will be the big TV slot headliner, and I think Glasto don't want another pop act to get that slot on a Saturday (Kanye, Adele). Radiohead is the perfect choice for them this year - they appeal to the youth and the old. And also they will advertise it as 'a long time coming set, 13 years since they last headline' & '20 years anniversary of their seminal 1997 headline act'

Also, they've been subtly building up for this for a year now. Like the, ME Oxford Q&A, EE comments on would love to have them back.  I dont think it was a coincidence that both Adele & Coldplay mention Radiohead's name in their headline act this year (probably ME told them to).

I did edit my post. Obviously not in time.

ok, well I really think the only way to judge whether the price is worth it is to question whether you see it as a holiday or not. Personally I do, I take a week off work and spend 5 days at the festival. It's spending money on food and drink there that scares me a lot more than the ticket price tbh.

I'd much rather spend 5-600 quid on 5 days at glastonbury than the same money on 7 days in Spain. I think it's decent value for money considering the amount of fun I have there. Then again next year will only be my 3rd year, maybe that will change with time when the novelty wears off.

Show me another campsite that charges anywhere near £60 pppn. (the anywhere near is to factor in the entertainment before you bring that up).

so, get a price for a campsite, go to the cinema, a craft fair, to 5 gigs, out for a meal, out on the piss, then 2 raves after it, and find me anything anywhere near £60pppn......

During the set? What did they say?

I mean I've been to some cracking campsites in the past but I must say non have quite matched the entertainment going on. Do you just like camping at glastonbury? If so it is a fecking rip off! Don't go!

Is all the expensive entertainment actually needed though? I have had a brilliant time at the last few glastonburys thanks to the crowd I've been with, as much as anything the festival has provided.

I could have a brilliant time with them at a campsite in cornwall, for a fraction of the cost.

I don't think Michael Eavis is writing scripts for the headline acts

Can't remember exactly, but something along the lines of

Adele:

"I remember when I was 9, it was my first glastonbury, i was standing there (pointing at a section at the Pyramid field), I watched Radiohead - it changed my life, that was the moment I knew when i wanted to do this"

Coldplay:

"We played Glastonbury at the New bands tent - now called the John peel tent, maybe some of you been over there this weekend, to see the next Adeles, the next Radioheads"
