I can empathise, just substitute Leeds 09 for Glastonbury 11.  I just had In Rainbows on while cooking tea and, well, it's a bit Radioheady.

By sheer coincidence I was listening to AMSP last night when Neil put them to TBC (or is is sheer coincidence? Am I actually the demiurge and you all owe me your eternal gratitude for this Radioheadliner I hath bestowed upon thee, and your reverence fear lest I smite thee down?), and I think it's a nice album with some enjoyable moments, but I'm not exactly clamouring to see it performed live without all the studio magic.

One thing I find with them is that I literally cannot mentally play a song of theirs back in my head if I'm not listening to it, it all just passes through. They do seem to be unanimously the most popular band among people who actively listen to a lot of music and different types of music though. With Blur and The Beatles I'm pretty sure it's everybody else that's wrong, but with Radiohead I get the feeling there's something there that's really good, which may have a lot to do with them seeming a polite and harmless group of dweebs, loads of outside of Radiohead stuff they do that I'm into, and I really enjoyed that set at Leeds.

Would the crowd of today be singing along to Fake Plastic Trees in quite the same way? Loads of the new regulars in their early 20s will probably barely know the song:(

I'm 25 and I've known Fake Plastic Trees since I was 12. You're massively underestimating people in their early 20s.

A kindred spirit you are!  My views on Blur and the Beatles have been well aired on here over the years, but like yourself I long to be seduced by Radiohead to the extent that my peers have been.

At the least I have eight months to work on it, though I suspect there's aspects fundamental to their sound and style that I will always struggle with.

Ditto. Loved (and still love) the first three albums, but after that they've just passed me by somehow. Downloaded more albums and enjoy them all, and will be listening extensively for the next 8 months to get the most out of them live!

My kids are 17 and 19 and can't wait for this to happen, and yes they know all the words

There will be plenty of individuals of early 20s and even younger there who love Radiohead. But not sure the older classics will have quite the same mass singsongs as they did in 2003 and 1997. Except for Karma Police maybe!

i wouldn't be so sure - they're not exactly Kings of Leon circa Sex on Fire where the crowd were there for the new stuff and fuck all else. it's Radiohead, and if this forum has proved anything it's that it's all or nothing. i doubt there are many Radiohead fans out there who are only fans of everything post OK Computer; of course they'll know the early material, and if they played something like Fake Plastic Trees it'd undoubtedly get some of the best reception all night

I think the singalongs will be as good if not better. Those tunes have had 20 years to marinate and embed themselves into our collective cultural consciousness. The old timers will be so stoked to relive their youth and the younger ones will be excited to hear it all live for the first time. If you think there wouldn't be a mass, goosebumps inducing sing along to Fake Plastic Trees you'd be mad.

Having watched my recommendations from yesterday I can definitely see the appeal a bit more now. Watched the glasto performance from 03 all the way through. Fake plastic trees was unreal, the highlight of the setlist for me. I also enjoyed Karma police due to the crowd.

at the roundhouse gig i was surprised at how many people in their late teens/early 20's were there, singing along to every word of no surprises. an incredibly diverse crowd.

I'm one of those early 20s people who were there, but yes, that was my favourite moment from that gig as well..found this video that i thought did a really good job capturing that moment:

I get teary just watching that again...

Just picturing some newer Radiohead fans that know all the words on TKOL and AMSP but look quizzical when they burst into Paranoid Android.

Neil, given that you're hardly enthusiastic on Radiohead, do you think you think there's a high chance you'll be seeing them on the Pyramid? Just to see what all our fuss has been about?

who knows? It depends what else is on.

I'm half-interested to see at least some of it, just to add them to my 'seen' list.

You absolute bell end. How can strong rumour be greater than to be confirmed. That's just English. To be confirmed -ie just waiting for a minutiae of detail.

Who can truly understand how my brain works? I know that makes sense. The world knows that makes sense. My brain just never chose to make the connection!

Ye gods, that's a disturbing possibility.

If they pull the finger out and play Creep (in the year of its 25th Anniversary)  and Fake Plastic Trees, they will generate enormous singalongs. They're two of their biggest songs on streaming - when up at least - so pretty certain the kids will know them!

Also, I shall pass on a happy man too.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh Mr Q! A bit pissed up last night.

Although I stand by my general sentiment. :-)

I had noticed your rapier like wit had become somewhat more bludgeon like!

Here's a confession, many years ago I also thought TBC and SR were the other way round. I've no idea what my thought process was. Maybe it's because TBC is often used when things are particularly tenuous and a Strong Rumour is, well - strong.

I'm pretty sure I didn't last over a year regularly posting on this form with the misconception intact though!
