NFR NFC 2017 - The friendly thread for lovely people

I love you lot too! Babylon, blimey! You're amazing! Everyone is! :) I got on ok at the docs, I saw a lovely nurse who said that because this is the third time I've had this op, they probably had to be more brutal and cut through tissue etc to have a proper look! Ugh! I can therefore expect recovery to take a bit longer than if it were my first surgery. So I'm ok! We are so so lucky to have such a brilliant service from the nhs, we really are.

To celebrate being ok (albeit still recovering slowly) I have spent the evening laying on the sofa and catching up with Winterwatch whilst drinking gin. Marvellous.

Guy- not drinking never works! Just give in and drink through it! ;)

As my uncle was want for saying ' May the hinges of friendship never seize up but for the want of a drop of lubrication'. He would then raise his glass in a toast like manner and down it in a one'er. This goes out to you lot, as I drink the last of a rather strange concoction of vodka, gin and slimline tonic.

Oh and I'm on board with sending out the healing vibes.

Bloody love you lot. Nowhere else do you get tales of cancer treatment interspersed with lines and acid.

Father in law got clear scans following his leg amputation from bone cancer before Christmas, then had a session in the kitchen with him making a batch of cookies as they're the best painkiller he's found! Again, can't fault the care he's received.

Been for a curry with brother Quark as he's here for the weekend; he's passed out on the sofa while I relax with a rum (Applys @H.M.V;) )

Happy weekend my lovelies

That's just great Quark and cookies have no ghastly side effects :) There's a bit of research going on in the states using acid and mdma with terminally ill patients and sometimes their partners too. It's showing great results in terms of their emotional well-being. I think we're a long way from "here's your diagnosis and a couple of tabs in case you want to" but at least these things are being explored.

Have a great Saturday all you lovely people, I'm off into Edinburgh to hit the charity shops :):) xxx

Hello everyone

First post in NFR since forever.

I've been meaning to post for ages and felt bad not having done so. Then I never got around to it. And then you start to feel even more awkward that you haven't posted and it goes around and around!

I know there are no rules or expectations in here, but after previously posting so much, I felt bad to have been so quiet here.

Anyhoo, just to say hello to everyone. Do we have any/many new NFRers?!

All good at Ben Towers®, as ridiculously busy as ever. Child 1 is at the LSE and clubbing every week, lucky beggar. Child 2 has three offers to study child nursing with a couple of universitites still for interviews. Child 3 is going to his first festival this summer (I', taking him to Latitude - I really am all NFC at Glastonbury!). Mrs Ben is fab and we're both running lots!

I'll bugger off now, but will genuinely try to be a better NFR correspondent again from now! Less than 5 months, folks!

:)

He lives!

Cracking day at Quark's Bar. Out cycling with Mrs Q and bro this morning, lunch at the market, then parents down this evening. Family dinner at the pub (this time last year bro and parents weren't even talking), now drinking in front of the fire and about to watch Withnail & I. Happy days

Can't believe we're that close already Benny. Assuming travel doesn't get kiboshed like last year the meet is currently top of my to do list for 2017!

Hello lovelies.  Welcome back @bennyhana22, glad all is good with you.  I may bump into you and Child 3 at Latitude as will almost certainly be going, either with my bestie who went with me last year, or family, or both.  @Quark sounds like you've had an excellent day. Did you do the drinking along with Withnail & I game?  Kopparberg and Blazing Saddles is a sound night in too @Babylon sister.  I've been belatedly catching up with Sherlock (still one episode to watch) while sampling a chocolate liqueur from Aldi. Now drinking green tea to get rid of the taste.

Warm hugs to all xx

Evening!

Well. My friend and I sat outside my flat earlier to do the RSPB big garden Birdwatch. Had a cider while doing that (at 1pm, fairly sensible) then continued drinking until not long ago! I am now in my jammies, having bedtime medicinal all smoke, and off to the land of nod very soon, I hope. I live unintentional tipsy afternoons, made even better with a bit or birding! Yes, there were tits. 3 different kinds too!

Lovely to see everyone having an equally smashing day :)

@Quark It CAN'T be as bad getting in last year. Can it?! I still think about that Wednesday often. That was quite the feat of endurance! Do you mean the 'full' eFests meet, Quark? It's such a lovely thing. So many fab people.

I'm pretty much on full time Glastonbury obsession now. I can't wait for the area drops to start in a few months. My dance preoccupation makes that aspect even more exciting than the main poster etc!

@dizzymoo Great news about Latitude. It'll be my fourth, and first time for a while. I really like the festival, though always think they could do a BIT more for the midnight-0400h stuff. Yes, ok, hands up...I mean more quality techno! Just can't wait to take Child 3. He is my musician and music junkie. He is going to go entirely mental at how amazing festival culture is!!!

Better get on - full Sunday ahead. Love to all

Ben xx

Morning all :)

Productive Sunday ahead! Gumby jr is off to a friend's birthday party today, and I've cunningly arranged for a truckful of logs to be delivered at the same time, so I need to be home to stack them up and pay for them. What a shame I don't get to spend a couple of hours surrounded by overexcited kids full of sugar and fizzy drinks! My other projects today include filtering some gingerbread vodka, and making some containers out of clay, to keep coffee pods in. Just need some music to go with all that. Thinking of starting with St. Paul and the Broken Bones, to remind me of a sunny (if rather soft underfoot) afternoon last June. Any suggestions for after that happily received.

P.S. I like seeing tits too :)

Alcohol and birdwatching sounds splendid @lucyginger :) I was watching a covert of coots down by a pond near our house the other day, the pond was frozen and they didnt look too steady on their feet!!

I went to the gym today for the first time in a while, I cant say that I enjoyed it that much but needs must. I'm listening to anoushka Shankar, happy days :) xx

I'm intrigued by your clay containers for coffee pods mr g, do you have pictures?

Image result for here hare here

For anyone interested (who doesn't know already) they run an outside filming of Withnail & I at the farm house every summer, with drinks and a disco after the showing. I've been tempted but have never been. A little put off by the fascistic time you are supposed to be off site from the next morning (the actual time eludes me right now). Still, if it's like most small festivals it actually translates as being very fluid. I'll see if I can find out the details.

If I had actually got round to it, I'd be happy to show you, but I ran out of time! I'll probably try to get on with it one day this week while gumby jr is at preschool. I'm basically aiming for something resembling square-based  terracotta flower pots, with lids to keep the dust out. I'm also considering some kind of decorative design on them, possibly using stone clay for contrast, but I'm not 100% sure on that yet.
