If I had actually got round to it, I'd be happy to show you, but I ran out of time! I'll probably try to get on with it one day this week while gumby jr is at preschool. I'm basically aiming for something resembling square-based  terracotta flower pots, with lids to keep the dust out. I'm also considering some kind of decorative design on them, possibly using stone clay for contrast, but I'm not 100% sure on that yet.

Very creative mr g I'll look forward to hearing more as your ideas are brought to life :)

Morning all :)

Productive Sunday ahead! Gumby jr is off to a friend's birthday party today, and I've cunningly arranged for a truckful of logs to be delivered at the same time, so I need to be home to stack them up and pay for them. What a shame I don't get to spend a couple of hours surrounded by overexcited kids full of sugar and fizzy drinks! My other projects today include filtering some gingerbread vodka, and making some containers out of clay, to keep coffee pods in. Just need some music to go with all that. Thinking of starting with St. Paul and the Broken Bones, to remind me of a sunny (if rather soft underfoot) afternoon last June. Any suggestions for after that happily received.

P.S. I like seeing tits too :)

The Hurts?  They were on afterwards I think.

On the bird watching front...I bought a bird feeder for my garden on Saturday, and no fucker has had even a nibble at it!

Ungrateful birds. I had visions of my garden being some kind of babylon for birds, but they don't give a shit.

That's your mistake there. Fashioning a garden built on the slavery and subjugation of generations of birds before they're allowed to leave to the Promised Land.

I'm not sure I said,  but in a nutshell I think I'm the luckiest woman in the world. I was diagnosed with a teenie breast cancer at the beginning of November following routine screening.

Very pleased to hear it was discovered so early and that they treated you so quickly.  Another big NHS fan here. Wonderful organisation, wonderful staff.  I'm not sure what they're playing at nationally with it <_<  I'd like them to integrate health and social care and make it even better than it is.

I continue with DIY and decorating here.  We have just chopped an old sofa up and taken it to the tip, and then moved furniture around, & now have an empty living room.  Having been so pleased that builder came round in early December to look at roof and chimney work, and the chimney liner builder came round two weeks ago, neither have sent us the quotations they promised.  So need to chase them this week or we won't get the roof etc. fixed this year.  I know they work to Devon-time, but would like to have the living room back for Christmas !

'the chimney liner builder' -  do you mean a Gas Safe Engineer? Just wondering because a normal builder (ie the other one you mention) should be able to quote for lining a chimney. You would then only need a Gas Safe Engineer to hook up any gas or even solid fuel heater that you may be installing. I'm just saying that if this is the case then you could get two quotes for this part of the work from both contractors that you mention ie let the second (Gas Safe) contractor know that he /she has competition for part of the work, which may force him / her to provide you with a keener price than they might have done. Just a thought.

Cheers Carlos, I didn't see them, I headed round to pyramid for Wolf Alice and Madness. Tonight I'm listening to some Kris Kristofferson, and trying to resist the temptation to put some Green Day on, as I don't want to get my hopes up!

Evening lovelies.

Well, what a dayI In order:

Dog walk > Run > Car Insurance appointment > went to pick up dog food > popped to a friend's workshop (memorial mason) to drop off a bolt - he's helping me bodge a Heath Robinson repair to my sink waste! > completely dismantled our shed (very old and decrepit and knackered, the death knell sounding after the loss of our final guinea pig last week), filling the skip dropped off at Ben Towers™ today. I worked until it was dark and could work no more! > dived in a very quick bath as I was filthy and stinky > Pilates (crikey mikey, my back needed that class by that point) > home for tea (Slimming World lasagne. Not quite the least conspicuous of the SW recipes, but still pretty delish, and another opportunity to marvel at, and fail to understand, quark. Small 'q', clearly :D) > picked up Child 2 from work.

Now knackered, but cozy with the log burner ablaze and very happy to be fulfilling my promise to be a better NFRer.

How's everyone else?

:)

It's a multifuel stove.  I know what you mean about trying to get a good price though - that's why we haven't chased too quickly, don't want to look too keen (even though we are !).  The chimney liner builder is HETAS registered which suits us as we'd not then need Building Control round. The roof builder didn't want to do the liner bit, but we want him to do the last 1/3 of the roof as he's done the other 2/3 of it in the past.  God it's complicated

A multi-fuel stove - I day dream about these items up until and including the point of dribbling like a baby. Yep, avoiding Building Control, if it's OK to do so, would be the path that I would take too - too many cooks in the kitchen and all that, as well as possibly further expense. These things can be a pain, but one day you'll look back and laugh - whether that be manically from a padded cell or not depends. lol   Anyway, I wish you the best with your building works. I've done many a house up myself, so know the stresses and strains of it all. Worth it though - I've just had my present house valued at double what I paid for it. Whether I get double at the end of the day remains to be seen, but it's going to be close no matter.

Afternoon all.  Bit s*ggy here today (dahn sarf as Lucy pointed out) but not the end of the world. Sounds like everyone's got plenty going on as always, and the rumours pages are definitely getting interesting!

Saw this today, love the idea.  Hope they can follow through, would be great if they can http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/38827701

Well, after 6 months of settling into the new job it's confirmed in my brain that I need a career change.  I suspected it anyway last year, but the main thing at that stage was just getting out of that job and into another company.  Thought it might just have been where I was working, but I know in my heart that this isn't for me.  Even with the nice people that I work with now.

So it's back to the drawing board for me.  Luckily the current job is OK so I can take my time, be thorough and really look at the fundamentals rather than rushing a decision based on what's already on my CV.  Exciting times! And this time I'm not in the middle of anxiety attacks, so that should help my decision making process

Much love x

Thanks @trevethin xx the weather is a bit mixed here today, apparently we're to brace ourselves for a storm. The weather lady said "they" haven't decided if they're going to name the storm but if they do she's going to be called Joyce, I don't think Joyce is a fitting name for a storm, it sounds a bit weak. I'm now curious as to who decides whether a storm should be named and what criteria they use, I'm off to explore this subject. Hope you're all having a fab day xxxx

@Quark I think I'm in a similar position job wise, I have just changed jobs - so intend on giving this one a full 6 - 8 months before making a decision. But I have had countless jobs in Marketing and been a little miserable in them all.

Good luck in your quest!

Bit of drizzle here today, obviously just getting it out the way before the festival!

Thanks @sheffieldlady:) Was talking it through with Mrs Q and my brother at the weekend, and because I fell into procurement by chance and stayed with it for nearly 12 years it's hardly a surprise that it really doesn't do anything for me!  Don't care about the profession, the industry I'm in (or have been in previously), or the categories I work in.  So what's to love?! Just can't believe it's taken me this long to make a conscious decision.  Stick with the job, but maybe start thinking about what you do want?  I reckon this is going to take a good long time for me to figure out what I actually want if I do it properly...

Is the multi fuel a kitchen stove or a lounge-type log burner @trevethin? Still getting the hang of our log burner, pretty sure I need to source some decent wood instead of the shite from the garage!

Glad you're feeling better @lucyginger x

I know a Joyce, believe me, it's very fitting! ;)

Dildos not doing it for you?

I don't get this joke. It's probably because I'm prim and proper, but just to satisfy my perverted sub conscious would somebody explain?

As an aside, I once tried to sell some dildos on ebay. It only took about an hour or so before they took my adverts down and said that I had to have some sort of special ebay account to sell them. They weren't me or my wife's dildos I hasten to add. In fact I was never holding them (stop it) in stock.

I've never known what I would like to do. I managed to orchestrate my own redundancy a few years back and got a reasonably healthy sum in redundancy money (which I duly pissed and drugged up the wall). I was very lucky because at the time of the redundancies I knew that I just couldn't last in the place any longer anyway. Since then I've been kind of pissing about. I'm selling my house now and it's been valued at twice what I paid for it. So, I might buy another knacker of a house and do it up and then sell it for a profit. I'm still trying to decide if this will satisfy me though. If I make the decision to go for it and buy a run down house then they'll be no going back ie I'll be locked in whether I like it or not. I wish you well with your decision making Quark. It ain't easy.

sheffieldlady works for ann Summers

Really? It was a slice of Ann Summers pie that I was trying to nibble in to when attempting to sell dildos on line (talk about Finbarr City). I thought if she can make millions selling the things then why not have a bash at it yourself (so to speak!).

Cheers Yog.  I'm under no illusions that the "perfect forever" job isn't out there, unless there's actually a job market for sitting on a sofa in your pants watching Futurama re-runs and eating crisps. But something better than this, surely! Found myself in a meeting yesterday just doodling "I don't fucking care" in my notebook!

Really good news on the house valuation, fingers crossed that you get close to what they're thinking :)
