I don't mind up voting people, but you'd have to be pretty offensive to get a down vote of me.

To be fair, if anyone's got that in them it's probably @Scruffylovemonster!

Anyhoo, hope everyone's having a good day.  The weekend grows nearer and all that. Not going to be this weekend as I've got a game on Saturday, but found that the local wildlife trust takes volunteers on Saturday Hit Squads (love the name) around the wildlife parks & reserves in the area to carry out work like  scrub clearance, removal of nonnative species, grassland management, reed cutting, woodland management, fence repair etc.

Aside from being a nice way to spend a Saturday (Mrs Q is also interested) it's a chance to explore the career option a bit more and get some experience in :)

Hello Quark,

Just had a thought (I know, but it does happen occasionally. Scares the life out of me it does!) about something I was going to get in to years ago (and now rather wished that I had) and which might be right up your street - or hedgerow! It's all to do with Japanese knotweed. There's very big money in it if you are a contractor in this area, and also good money if you are a surveyor in this area. Only last week National Rail lost a case which may open the flood gates to them being liable for it's growth from rail embankments on to private property. I think they are challenging the ruling against them but if they lose they'll be wanting oceans of surveyors and contractors to help stem the costs of litigation against them.

Anyway, if you are interested then here's some information on a course on it (see link below). Please note that the exam and qualification are in addition to the cost of this course. Theoretically you could do your own study from information already on the net and just do the examination. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it

I thought the whole point of Japanese knotweed is it can't be eradicated?  Looks like jobs for life for everyone there!  Hope you and your (presumably lovely) arse are well Yog.  Completely irrelevant, but I never fail to be amused that in American football there's a position called 'tight end',  defined as 'an offensive end who lines up close to the tackle'

Saturday Hit Squad (Shit squad?) sounds like a great way to find out if gardening/tree surgery work is for you @Quark.  Our garden could do with an extended visit from the shit squad. Excellent pick up on the waffer thin mint there @lucyginger and @bennyhana22.  Hope you've recovered @Skoo@Scruffylovemonster methinks you protest your anger with Quark too much just give in to those irresistible feelings of love..

A real good news/bad news week here.  At the weekend youngest managed to stay in school grounds 30 minutes, which makes me more hopeful that he'll be able to go into school for his Sixth Form interview in April. On Monday we found out the history mock paper in 2 weeks is about an area of the syllabus his online tuition hasn't covered at all (no idea how that's happened);  but I was also blown away to find out his lovely maths teacher, who's leaving at Easter but will be doing a few hours a week supply teaching at the school next term, has asked the headteacher to allow him to continue working with my son in a mentoring role to help him back into school.

Hello dizzymoo,

Japanese knotweed can be eradicated, but it's not an easy job to do. Fail to do it right and it'll just grow back like the bastard that it is.

As for me and my arse, we are both fairly content today. We've (that's my wife and I, not my arse and I) got a friend coming over shortly and he's bringing some smoke with him. For some reason I really fancy a smoke tonight and trying to talk while my mind goes off on more tangents than a tangent thing. I've just come back from picking up some golf clubs that I purchased that were advertised by someone on Gumtree. Now, I have absolutely zero interest in watching, playing or anything to do with golf. I have bought them for creating something artistic out of the clubs. When I mentioned to the seller that I wanted them for an art project they responded by saying that I could have them for £10 less because her husband is, to quote ' an artist painter and decorator'. Make of that what you will. Tomorrow will find me hack sawing off the heads of the clubs - something which many a non golf playing spouse would love to do I'm sure.

I guess the good news for you is that the history paper that your son has to do is a mock paper and not the real thing. It's good news about his maths teacher though. Will keep my fingers crossed that your son's confidence improves daily and that he's cool about going to his 6th form interview.

Hope that you are happy and well.

I'm pretty good thanks Yog.  Also found out today that I may start getting paid for the counselling I'm doing as a volunteer (been there 12 years, so not before time).  Only downside is I'll now get hassled to do the admin properly, which is fair enough I suppose.  It's been proper Manchester here recently, such that we have a small lake between the house and the car. Definitely taking one for the team,  though it saves washing the car..

Happy clubbing.

Got bored at work & started reading the Glastonbury wikipedia page & it suddenly dawned on me how bloody lucky we are having the best festival in the world in our country.

My Canadian & US friends have no idea. Ok, they have Sasquatch & Coachella & the weather but they are all missing out.

Hello dizzymoo,

Wow, you've been there for 12 years and they haven't got around to paying you? No prizes for guessing it's a devotion then. This may seem like an impertinent question ( I hope not), but do you nick as much stationary as possible on a weekly basis, to kind of compensate? I know that I would. I wouldn't nick anything from a shop but have felt Ok about it in the past from an employer. Mostly because I was saving them huge swathes of money while they were fucking the same savings about the place willy nilly, and not exactly appreciating my and others commitment. Good God, you are good at this councelling thing - why on earth did I come out with that bollocks / truth?

The clubs will not resemble clubs tomorrow. The person who I bought them off has asked to see some of my artwork. Lordy! Happy to hear that you are well.

You are right indeed Bisque.  It's brilliant is that.  We have weather too... which will of course be beautiful this year.

Ah, I have ways of making you talk.  Or at least the speed does.  They pay for my supervision and it's a brilliant place to work. Plus my 'boss' (closer to being a friend) provides free EMDR therapy for my youngest, which is having a miraculous effect.  So I don't feel the need to nick stationery.  Also the receptionist guarding it is much too scary!

Great news that you may recruit another fan of your artwork.

Fingers crossed for another 2010 weather wise. Although I was dying under a pizza box by Sunday as England got thrashed by Germany.

I love me some Big Time Sensuality, but this particular view of Madonna makes me cringe a bit.  The pose looks painful anyway - but all that waxing doesn't bear thinking about.

I haven't actually seen the video. I just put on what we were listening to and not watching. On the waxing front I'll raise you a Brazillian verses getting your foreskin caught in the zip of your jeans as a child (nobody ain't stupid enough to do that again in their lives). I don't think I'll ever get over that experience.

Never having had a foreskin I'll have to take your word for it! Once after sharing a bath with my eldest when he was a toddler, I got out and was reaching for a towel when he decided to get out too. Instead of holding my hand he grabbed my nipple in a vice-like grip and hauled himself out of the bath. He was remarkably tenacious, despite my shrieks.

Balls.  Woke up to the sad news that a friend of mine from rugby has lost his battle with cancer.  Spent many an evening at the village local propping up the bar with him until the landlord kicked us out so he could go to bed.  Beer tonight in his memory I feel.

But other than that the sun is shining and the world is good. Good news about your eldest's tutor Dizzy, says a lot about both them and the effort that Dizzy Jnr must be putting into it :)

I'd go for tea Lucy, but that's just personal preference!

Oh Quark, I'm sorry to hear that. Definitely a beer or three tonight, I'll raise a glass too xxx

Coffee in the mornings, tea in the afternoons for me!

Morning all, who says it's all nice weather in the Middle East? It's pissed it down here every day for the last week!

sorry to hear your bad news @Quark definitely raise a glass tonight!. Great news on your youngest @dizzymoo, hopefully things will continue to improve for him and lovely that his teacher is going to continue being a mentor. Ooh and congratulations on being paid for your counselling. It must be a hugely rewarding experience to do it voluntarily for 12 years.@Bisque should I be lucky enough to get a ticket in April I will settle for a repeat of 2010 every day. That weather was amazing. Not so much for my red headed other half mind...@Yoghurt on a Stick Being a keen golfer I'm not sure how I feel about you cutting up golf clubs although many a time I've wanted to cut mine up! I once went to see the club pro for a lesson to help me improve and after watching me take a few shots he advised me to have 3 inches cut off the end of all my clubs. "Will that make me play better?" I asked. He replied, "no but they'll fit in the bin!"
