Yes, it is quite the haul (7,800 KM if I could fly straight to Bristol), so I will make a nice trip out of it. Last time we spent three nights in London (Shoreditch), three nights in Bath before heading to the festival. And then two nights after in London (near Hyde Park) before flying out.  Not sure what we will do this year, but I would like to spend more time in the country. Or one possibility is to fly into Amsterdam a week early and make my way to the site. Currently all I have is a reservation in Shepton Mallet the night before the festival.  If anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear it.

Oregon is beautiful.  Living in Portland I'm only 3 hours away from anything I want to do. The beach, Skiing, the Desert, its really an active lifestyle type of place. I can have great hiking in under an hour, in nearly any direction I drive.   Somerset reminds me a lot of rural (agricultural) parts of Oregon, we just have more Pine trees. The Pacific northwest is the most diverse region in the country and definitely worth a visit any time of the year.  Portland was recently named "best food city in America" too.

If you are coming early and the weather is good, think about coming down south to sunny Brighton! It's an old Victorian city by the sea, buzzing place, loads of music and art all over the place, and the people are great. You see some really funny sights here. Check out the video below for a sample of Brighton's randomness!

*tiptoes in to thread and waves*    hi everyone, I'm new here.  Is this the chit chat thread ?

I didn't get tickets last weekend, but hope I will in April.  And I agree we are due a fair or good weather one next year.  I too will revere the weather gods in some way ;-)

My day is going quite well, I have finished the outside painting I've been doing.  Need to find the white spirit though as I've gloss on my foot

Bonjour Trevethin.  Technically this thread is only for those who adhere to the principle of NFR NFC (No F*ckin' R*in, No F*ckin' Compromise), so as long as you stick with that we'll be just fine here ;)

No direct mention is allowed of r*in, m*d or other consequences of dodgy weather. Wall to wall sunshine for 5 days solid and dry ground to start with is our goal. Achieved by praising weather gods and drinking copious amounts of gin.

With all that on board - welcome!  And good luck with the gloss.  I generally just wait and peel it off, but that probably says more about me than it should :)

Hello Trevethin, welcome!

I'm a peeler too, or a "oops I hadn't noticed I've painted myself as well" person!

In 2010 I got tickets and surprised my other half with them for her birthday. I got serious brownie* points that day I can tell you.

*not a metaphor! (I know how you lot think...)

Actually I believe brownie points originally did refer to brown nosing!

Welcome @trevethin.  How's the foot painting going?

Hi all, hope everyone's well.  I've had an unexpectedly good day,  after an encouraging meeting at school re youngest going back for 6th form.  They seem genuinely willing do whatever they can to help.  Eldest is making friends at uni and has found someone similarly unskilled to play pool with.

For some reason I seem to be contributing even more than usual to greenhouse gases.  One delight of getting, ahem, older is that the digestive system rebels at the slightest opportunity.  If I ever went for the Wednesday curry at Glastonbury I'd certainly be hazardous to be around!

What's the crack with youngest Dizzy? Sounds promising whatever it is. Glad eldest is settling down, I remember my first few months at uni. Well, sort of remember

I met most of my friends through rugby, certainly helped to get to know people!

Been a while since we've popped any tunes up on here. So to accompany the cooking of tonight's tomato and kale frittata with celeriac chips, and in anticipation of opening up the tent flaps to perfect mornings every day next year, here are The Beloved :sungum:

The long term plan has been to get him back to school for A levels as he can't do them at home.  But, thanks to major fuck ups by all agencies, when he stopped going to school he missed a whole term of education in Yr 10 so it's possible he wouldn't get the GCSE grades he needs, even though he's really bright.  Sticking point could be English which he hates and needs at least grade C,  and school policy is no resits of GCSE's in 6th form . But when the Head of outreach education (which provides home tuition) offered  to coach him free of charge to get him through a resit if needed they said that would be a possibility.  I'd been led to believe there were no exceptions to the 'no resits' rule and was prepared for a fight but it wasn't needed. So much of the last year has been a constant battle,  it's a huge relief :)

I met most of my friends at uni through drunken field trips (one of the joys of environmental science). And learning some very rude songs.  Quite similar to rugby really.

Fair amount of history there then, missed all that (if it's been shared previously)!

Sounds positive, fingers crossed

Thanks Quark.  I'm afraid I've bored everyone rigid (steady on there Gumby!) with the tale of woe as it has gone on for so long and was literally maddening for me.  Lovely people here really helped me retain some remnant of sanity.

Nothing like opening those flaps for a perfect morning...

Nice result. Very decent of the Head of Outreach Education to go further than possibly was his/ her remit (I don't know, did he/she?). Or was it a case of you had them in a Vulcan nerve pinch, rendering them incapable of keeping strictly to policy? Either way, at least you won that battle. Nice one.
