Latitude Festival 2017

I get the idea Rob Da Bank tried to book Gorillaz for bestival because he said that they aren't doing festivals. Would be quite shitty for them to lie to him, so I'm not convinced.

Yeah I agree, unless Rob Da Bank is only saying that as a cover up as he would want to sell tickets for Bestival and by suggesting that Gorillaz are at another festival, people would want to get tickets to that festival.

I personally don't see Gorillaz at Latitude this year just because since the flurry of stories of the characters, there has been very little news except from today and that song. If they were to headline, I think there would have to be a proper formal announcement of something as the hype has died out after the stories earlier on

You're not wrong about the Gorillaz announcement having its own hype. They've been pretty heavy on the promotion whenever they do anything.

I don't think RDB needed to lie about Gorillaz, it was a tweet to a punter. He could've ignored it or said no, because it could blow up in his face if they are playing somewhere

it may not be rob da bank lying about gorillaz though, it could always be that gorillaz's reps lied to rob da bank. it might be easier just to say they're not doing festivals rather than oh we've agreed an exclusive with latitude.

i quite want gorillaz to headline, can you tell :D

But that burns bridges, obviously every festival can't get their first three choices of headliners every year.

I want it to happen too, I just don't believe it will

Do we think we might see Jamie T on the lineup

I thought he would have been announced for R/L but that's not the case

Yeah, could see him as a sub/6music headliner.

How about the strokes as a wildcard headliner? With the capacity increase this year, I can see how they might not be too big/expensive nowadays

My ideal lineup:

Fri: Obelisk: The 1975, Lorde; 6 Music: Jesus and Mary Chain

Sat: Obelisk: Bon Iver, London Grammar; 6 Music: Bonobo

Sun: Obelisk: LCD Soundsystem, (indifferent); 6 Music: The Shins

Sub in Kendrick Lamar, Massive Attack, Radiohead in any form and Chemical Brothers and I'll be equally happy - I'm being incredibly optimistic!

My prediction:

Fri: The 1975, London Grammar

Sat: Lana Del Rey, Lorde

Sun: Fleet Foxes/The xx, Laura Marling/The Avalanches

I'll stuck with my 6 Music headliners.

I could also picture Childish Gambino making a fixture as an exclusive with his new album being more contemporary R&B/soul-centred. I expected him at Lovebox but his new record was critically acclaimed and given he is headlining the Governors Ball in NYC, he clearly has a big following and would sell tickets.

Looks like he's only doing US shows (probably because of his now busy film schedule). Be surprised if he popped up anywhere in the UK this summer, although I'd obviously like to be wrong.

Yeah I think his filming schedule will be the biggest barrier but if not now then the chances are he won't be free for a long time as he is evidently focusing far more on acting. It would be a shame for him to not come here for even one show so ideally he could do a set at Latitude or if not, probably sub for Chance the Rapper on the Friday at Wireless

After seeing Bonobo last night, I really hope he's at Latitude. Was a great show!

I think he'll headline 6music. Him, Ride and Blossoms.

Worried that the lack of Liam Gallagher on any UK lineups is leading to an ill-advised Latitude headline slot. I know he doesn't seem big enough but neither did Damon til he was announced.

surely his Orville the duck impersonation at Olympic games opening ceremony has put pay to anyone taking him seriously

Yep. We can only hope that his non-appearance at UK events is because every festival has laughed and hung up the phone upon hearing what fee/slot they want for him. :P

No love for the Crystal Fighters, playing SGP the week after and no planned dates over Latitude weekend?

Wouldn't be surprised if they turn up. But they headlined the third stage on their first album, played mid afternoon on the mainstage for the second album cycle. Doubt they'd be much higher this time round

i really hope jamiroquai aren't there - can't stand them! could see it happening though...

i actually think there's a chance liam gallagher could play as melvin has made no secret of the fact he's a bit of an oasis fanboy in the past. could only see him being about 3rd from top mainstage though or maybe a 6music headliner at a push.

crystal fighters last played 3rd from top mainstage in 2014 i think so could be back. not sure where they'd fit in though as can't really see them any higher up the bill than that.

pretty excited for wednesday now!
