No one knows any more what people will vote for

True, Brexit could of been written off as a freak result. If its a wider shift I'm wondering if its going to filter out to even more countries.

Le Penn in April? and how is that going to affect brexit negotiations.

I wonder if the polls purposely don't want to portray the likelihood of a potential 'negative' results in order not to create panic i.e. Brexit/Trump.

Or is it just a case of people genuinely being unsure until the day, or more voters turning out than expected?

In regards to Trump being brandished as 'stupid, moronic, brainless etc' are clearly doing the man a disservice. He's built a multi billion dollar business empire, and now has become the single most powerful person in the world, with no political background.

The man is clearly highly motivated and intelligent, and like him or not it's an astonishing achievement - just a shame he's a racist, sexist, vile human being at the same time.

he doesn't come across as intelligent. He comes across as 'eccentric' since he has money and power.

I hope the real power is elsewhere than the presidency.

He built a multi billion dollar empire, just from millions of family fortune and a bankruptcy declaration.

Dutch likely to go to their far right next year as well. Noone sure what the German election will produce.

Could well be a huge wave of bigotry - led political results across the west.

Oh my.

Trump inherited a fortune.

If Trump had invested that fortune in a simple stock market tracker, he'd now be eight times richer than he is. Trump is not a successful businessman, he's a bad businessman.

I'm planning to stay on the sofa for as long as I can stay awake - booked the day off tomorrow.

In terms of predictions I have a similar niggling doubt to Nal about shy Trumpers (arf!) so am on tenterhooks for the result...

Seems most were shy. A fucking landslide.

His victory speech was very different to what he's been saying in the run up. No mention of the wall. Maybe we'll just see their corp tax cut from 35% to closer to ours and Obama care repealed. Its still going to be tricky to force though some of the more extreme stuff.

It was the standard victory speech all winners use- no one's going to say "I'm going to screw you all", they pretend to be unifying and that they want to heal rifts and work for all but it's complete BS

I wonder if the next thing will be the national front winning in france

Republicans now control the presidency, the house of representatives, the senate and get to select the new supreme Court judge, which tips the balance. Feel sorry for any left wingers in America, this is a nightmare.

Beginning of the end of western society. I expect WW3 in the next decade or so

I think that kind of thinking may be of benefit to Trump because when he doesnt do it, people will think maybe he isnt as bad as I thought.

My feeling is that Trump is going into this with the intention of only serving one term regardless of how his term goes.  In terms of how his presidency goes, people are assuming he will be a terrible president, however I think it could go either way.  My assumption is that all the promises he has made in the past go out of the window,

For all the talk about Trump being a drag down ballot, all the close senate races went republican despite the dems having some pretty good candidate. Interestingly in 2 years the democrats will mainly be defending senate seats in the mid term, so unlikely to pick up much,

...so is there anything positive we can take from this?

If it is a fundamental world shift and the euro zone breaks up with referendums in Holland and France, getting out early and the pound being a safe haven currency could be an inspired move.

yes, hillary clinton isnt president.

Sending podesta out to tell her supporters to go home, then conceding in a dark corner? says it all about her character.

Yes trump is a bully and all the rest and it's awful that he's now the most powerful man in the world, but it is a positive thing that the bush/clinton dynasty has been destroyed.

Talk of WW3 is absurd.

I guess the hope is that Trump and the republican party go to war with each other over the next few years and tear themselves apart.

would that be like how the tories would tear themselves apart over the brexit campaign, and how they'd tear themselves apart no matter what the result, and how they'll tear themselves apart over a50....? ;)
