CV east or west?

Evening.

Thankfully managed to get tickets for next year (well, actually spectacularly failed but thankfully a friend managed to get through for us - phew!) My brother is kindly lending us his camper van. For the last few years we've gone for CV east. Now I recognise they are a bit easier to get as the site is larger which makes CV west seem more exciting but is there much difference? Wondered about trying for CV west this time. Can anyone who has tried both give some insight please?

Cheers all.

As we were expecting 2016 to be the last year we were going we decided to give the West a try, as there always seems to be a clamor to get onto the West over the East. We totally regretted that decision, we found it isolated, a long walk from anywhere and couldn't see why it seems so popular with some. Both of the fields consist of slopes - at least 90%, with some parts being quite steep, getting out of there for almost everyone involved a tow and its hard to see how this isn't the case any wet year, but i did check for feedback from previous users and they said they had managed to get out OK in other wet years.

There were 2 advantages though, the first being that it was a lot lot easier to get into on the Tuesday evening, as you know the traffic was horrendous and getting into the East side took many many hours, for us, we had to wait for about an hour to do a quarter of a mile when we hit the main queue but as soon as we turned down to head towards gate A and then onto the West entrance it took about 5 minutes to cover the last few miles, and there was no wait at all to get into the field.

The other advantage is the wristband gate, it is solely for the West Campervan users and on the Wednesday morning i wondered down about 0830 and there was no queue at all for wristbands and there was never any issues getting in or out at any time.

Hopefully you will get some other positive comments as maybe we had missed something, but we will be going for East tickets later this month.

Hey there. Thanks for the reply. Interesting that you're not going West again. It is made out to be some mythical zone if greatness! No queue in and out does appeal though! Does look ages from anywhere on the map. Then again - it's quite a trek up the hill of doom. Having said that I quite like the walk back as a bit of a wind down from the big night out!

Perhaps stick with devil I know!

I've always done East and never been in West so I'm not in a position to give you a balanced view but, FWIW, West just looks too far away from the areas that I find myself in most often - Williams Green, Acoustic, West Holts, Avalon etc. I do go to places on the other side of the site, but the places where I head for when I first go on in the morning, and the areas that I'm most likely to be at the end of the day, are all nearer to PGC so that means East for me.

There are some people who are really keen on the West, so there must be something about it that appeals. It can be a bit of a walk back to your pitch in the East site but it just seems so much better to us, we felt that we are in the site right up until the time we leave gate C, with the West site you are away from anything a long time before you get to the gate. We have been in lots of different fields in the East and never felt it was as bad as this year, you also  get that buzz when heading towards the gate and seeing virtually the whole site from the top of the hill.

I forget to mention that the food van in the West was terrible, really bad, i know the East aren't amazing but there is more choice and it is better quality.

Stick to the East would be my recommendation, there will be plenty of people going for the West anyway. Good luck in a couple of weeks:)

Thats a good point - I love the site view when heading in and the view you get when heading off to bed! It's quite nice having the walk back, bit of a wind down before sleep.

Fingers crossed it'll be a touch less muddy next year. We were towed on and off. Slightly stressful when it wasn't my own van.

East it is! Cheers for the info. Good luck to you too.

It was a mighty slog getting around this year. At least the route to East was mostly ok, and in the field themselves walking was ok (ignoring the massive tractor ruts!) Only made it to the Park once due to the mud - can't imagine if had to go that way each night to get home. Hadn't noticed until now (you're right) most of the site is closer to the East. Perhaps West is a good choice if you have lots of mates camping?
