Best Kept Secret 2017

What I can see after a week from the announcement is that the lineup is really diversified.

There's any kind of genre, from rock to techno; lots of guitar bands but also fine live/dj acts.

From the list of Must See acts I've also found Strand Of Oaks (there's their entire concert on youtube at Bks15, I absolutely reccomend you to see it).

I was down the front for that, just out of shot to the left when he's hugging the crowd at the end...

It was very good. But I missed out on my hug because I had to shoot off to see Eagulls before he made it as far as me.

Yep I know about strand of oaks, terrific band :D After a bit of homework it looks like that for me:

MUST SEE: Radiohead, Cigarettes After Sex, Circa Waves, Kaleo, King Gizzard, Strand of Oaks

VERY INTERESTED: Arcade Fire, Thurston Moore, Mitski, Slutface, Stuff., Amazons, Wytches

I'm not the biggest fan of Soulwax, Floating points, Toxe,... but I will check them out. I'm not quite sure what to do with all the pop singers yet :D Still plenty of time to do that :)

Acts I'm least interested in are George Ezra, James Blake and RT J (I'm gonna give them a chance since they're headlining)...

So it's time for the list. Before consulting any hypothetical clashfinder this is mine:

Must Must See: 3 headliners + James Blake

Must See: Floating Points, Metronomy (English Riviera is one of my fav albums), Soulwax (I was a big fan in the past), Ry X, Joy Orbison, Cigarettes After Sex, Vatican Shadow, Laurel Halo, Toxe, Strand of Oaks.

Interested: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Thundercat, Arab Strap, Weval, Mannequin Pussy, Tommy Cash.

However there are plenty of bands I don't know yet, I've to study in the next weeks :D

For me it would be something like this:

Friday

Must see: Run The Jewels, Jenny Hval

Will see: Real Estate, King Gizzard & the Lizzard Wizard, Agnes Obel, Show Me The Body

Saturday

Must see: Arcade Fire, the Thurston Moore Group

Will see: Whitney, Andy Shauf, Chris Cohen, Girl Band, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Mitski, The Wytches

Might see: Floating Points, Thomas Dybdahl

Sunday

Must see: Radiohead, Arab Strap, Kikaguku Moyo

Will see: James Blake, American Football, Junun, Strand of Oaks

Might see: Soulwax

This board got pretty quiet....

Let's speculate about the bands possibly still joining the lineup (even though we haven't been too good with this in the past). ;)

Northside had their final announcement with acts like The Afghan Whigs, Ride, Tom Odell, Helgi Johnsson and WhoMadeWho, which all are more or less suitable for BKS. I'd really love to see The Afghan Whigs again.

Bands from other festivals which still might join: Flying Lotus, Death Grips, Teenage Fanclub, SURVIVE, Sampha, Chinah, Lorde,...

Any other more or less realistic suggestions?

60 New names for Sonar

As for other names. I'd like Saint Etienne, De La Soul, Royksopp and Primal Scream, all of whom are around. Foals would be a great sub for RTJ.

From the new Sonar confirmations I'd only like to see Cerrone, who most probably won't perform at BKS. ;) From the prior Sonar announcements I'd still like to see Fat Freddy's Drop, Nico Muhly, Valgeir Sigurdsson and the from you mentioned De La Soul, but chances for all seem pretty slim.

Bit disappointed in what the festival has to offer besides Radiohead and James Blake.

Not much alternative/post-punk/shoegaze/noise rock bands to go crazy at this year. A lot of of that singer/songwriter grub that sounds all the same. Last year you had the likes of  Wolf parade, Wild Nothing, Diiv, Beach House, Explosions in the Sky en Vietcong playing epic shows. Three years ago even the Pixies, Interpol, Cheatahs, Fucked Up, Mogwai, Slowdive, The Horrors, War on drugs and Wild Beasts.

Yes, the lineup seems softer this year - and also a bit repetitive. Quite a lot of the "more important" names of this year's lineup have been at BKS in 2014 (James Blake, George Ezra, Ry X, Metronomy, Wild Beasts, Circa Waves, Girl Band, Honeyblood, The Wytches) and further bands have been at other editions at BKS.

I'm still hoping for Justice, Aphex Twin, and Trentemoller, however unlikely/impossible that is (I know).

Tycho, !!!, Flying Lotus, SURVIVE, Primal Scream all have BKS-time holes in their tour dates, and one or two could actually be a possibility.

Wishful thinking, but overall I'd be more than happy with at least one of the aforementioned.

Oh, and I too join the "no more singer-songwriter" bandwagon! There's more than enough of those already announced.

A offtopic but concerning my travel to BKS.
Since I'll spend a few days in Utrecht I'm searching for something to do; I see that Damian Marley will play at Tivoli on Wednesday, I'm not very interested but I'd like to go. I've seen the ticket price...43€!!!! is it possible?!?!? I think I'm staying in whatever pub and spend the same money in beer :D:D:D

Just making sure you haven't missed those guys:

Royksopp only available on the Sunday now. Playing Lithuania on the Friday and Moscow on the Saturday so still do-able.

I still see The Oh Sees being announced at a later date, most likely after the Rotterdam date which is billed as an exclusive club show.

Only just noticed that De La Soul are at North Sea Jazz so that's them most likely ruled out.

Last year at this point the lineup was almost done, do we expect an announcement soon? (And a separate announcement for stage 4 later)

There are not too many bands to be added, my dream is still Aphex Twin on Friday but I think it's unlikely.

edit:

looking at this clashfinder http:///s/bks2017/ the situation is:

friday

stage one: 1 name to come

two: 1

three: 4

five: 3

saturday

One: 0

two: 0

three: 1

five: 0

Sunday

One: 0

two: 0

three: 3

five: 0

There's another 40 odd names to come yet.

Yes but most of them for stage 4. (Mostly local djs I seem to remember, except some bigger act like Caribou last year).
