Me neither.  I don't get a thing about how recently an act had played from  "I haven't told anybody it's happening"

Well "it's happening" to me doesn't scream "band that played a poorly received headline set a few years ago returning". It suggests an event, a reunion, a huge artist, a first solo show. Gorillaz returning isn't enough of an event to be phrased like that.

Nah, one quick look at the genres tells me everything I need to know - Grime, R&B and EDM are pretty much my idea of music hell. I told a lie before actually - I have heard a Drake song albeit it was the one that he did with Rihanna that the NME said was their tune of 2016. I thought it was appalling. I guess it's just a matter of taste but I can see no redeeming features whatsoever in 99% of anything that's popular these days. But, as i said, that's fine with me because for every Major Lazer, Kendrick, Stormzy, Nikki Minaj, Rihanna, Chase and Status, J Hus and whoever else is in the charts, there's a Slowdive, Shins, The National, Angel Olsen, Perfume Genius, Thurston Moore, Girlpool, King Gizzard and Ryan Adams releasing music that I do like. I'll just listen to them and stop going to festivals when there's a lack of bands I like who are playing.

kendrick is blues/rap, a far cry from grime and R&B

I sometimes wonder whether I'm the only person who has never knowingly heard a Kendrick Lamar song. Or a Drake song. Or indeed anything by Major Lazer, Boy Better Know or any of the other bands that people say are headlining or who are in the running for future headliners. I guess I just ain't down with the kids but that's fine with me because there's been loads of people in the run up to this festival who have never heard of either the National or Ride and they're two of the bands I'm most looking forward to.

You aren't alone, I'm exactly the same, no clue about them at all

I totally agree. Never heard of any of them. This obsession with grime is baffling the fook out of me too.

Lamar headline Glasto? Get away!

That's because you've seen too much of that hysterical 'it's happening' gif.

Away from the world of internet memes, it's a pretty neutral phrase.

I thought they were was some doubt as to whether The National would sub? If that's who you're on about?

not really. there's nothing to suggest that they aren't other than wishful thinking by some people on here. pretty much everything points towards them being Saturday Pyramid subs.

That made it sound almost ok but I just gave him a listen on itunes. My ears!!!

I used to quite like "rap" but there's only a certain type that I listen to such as J5, Beasties, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers etc (the new DJ Format / Abdominal record is brilliant!). The Kendrick song i just listened to just sounded like an angrier Kanye and is the sort of stuff that annoying kids play on their phones at the back of the bus. I honestly don't get the appeal but horses for courses and that.

Nothing at all about the phrase "its happening" could possibly used as evidence to rule anybody in or out.

Shows your ignorance to those genres if you think K.Dot is grime. Glasto will have another rapper headline in the future and he's the only one out there that could do it. The mainstream may not know who he is but once he drops the singles off Damn! featuring U2 and Rihanna every will.

My only worry is with the fallow year R&L will grab him for headliner next year and it'll make Glasto less likely in 2019

"I've never heard of multi-million selling Drake, one of the biggest acts in the world for several years"

whatever about not liking an act's actual music, people displaying their musical/cultural ignorance like a badge of honour is truly baffling.

Didn't say I'd never heard of him. Just I'd never knowingly heard a song of his. But I don't listen to radio, I don't frequent any clubs and I have zero interest in listening to an act just because he's popular when I know that the style of music he does doesn't appeal to me. It's not a badge of honour to say I don't like modern R&B/rap. It's a fact.

Maybe I am reading too much into "it's happening". I'm not necessarily saying it has to be a big band, but I do think it has to be more significant than just a band that played a few years ago returning.

He has a variety of different sounding albums.

Have a listen to his album To Pimp A Butterfly.

If it does turn out to be a led Zeppelin reunion guesting with the foo's I'm torn. Wasn't that arsed about seeing the foo's, infact I was really looking forward to a bit of saturday disco/motown action on WH with the remaining Jackson brothers. Now do I reluctantly stand through 3 hrs of shouty Dave and the boys in the hope of these rumours are indeed true. I'd be suicidal if they didn't turn up and I'd wasted a headliner

You can like both though, it's okay friend, I love The National and Fleet Foxes and all those lovely American bands like real estate and parquet courts whilst also enjoying Danny brown, kendrick, Vince staples etc

Which is fine, but then you have to appreciate it's the equivalent of saying you don't like a film which you have never seen, as the genre isn't particularly to your liking. Basically other people won't value your opinion on it.

You are reading too much into those two words. 'I haven't told anybody it's happening" literally just means something is taking place and she has kept it a secret. The fact she hasn't told anybody is a much bigger indicator.

Fair enough, horses for courses and all that. When you put it that way, for every one of the artists you don't like releases an album King Gizzard will have released 2 which aint a bad thing at all ahah. I don't really keep up with the charts but have a few trusted sources for music so if something gets enough recommendations I'll check it out. Does mean I listen to some rubbish though. I had a flat mate in uni that seemed to take enjoyment out of not liking music so I vowed to become the opposite, I like going back to well received albums I didn't like when they were released and see what I think now, recently came round to The XX who I hated with a passion when they came out.
