The money in the football has got out of control.. 80p a second is disgusting no one is worth that.

. It's wrong and I'm glad I stopped watching it a few years ago.. I hope football implodes under its own greed..

He is worth what someone is willing to pay. There is only this much money in football because it's so popular. How would it implode? No chance.

Yea probably right but I still think it is wrong.. Maybe they should only get paid if they actually won the game.. Or better still have some of their money given out to help the town or city they play for....

Also I think UK teams should have a limit on the amount of foreign players in the club.. At least we might have a better chance of winning a world cup game lol

Keep reading reports (though I do take them with a huge pinch of salt) that Barca have agreed personal terms with Coutinho.

Genuinely curious how this is any different to what Liverpool got in massive trouble about with VVD? It seems to go on all the time.

He wasn't in Dublin on Saturday. Sore back.

If memory serves then this did used to be a rule. I think it was something like you could only have 3 non-European players in your match day squad each week.

There was no cap on European players though so it wouldn't necessarily have helped England and the other home nations.

Why is it wrong? They pay huge amounts in tax. That will get reinvested into the town/city. Sports like football are nothing but good for the local economy. Neymar (like many other football players) is known to do a lot of charity work, particularly in his home Brazil.

Again, I don't agree. We weren't anything special before foreign players came over! There is just much more competition now as more players are getting access to top facilities and coaching. England's lack of success in world cups recently is much more to do with the piss poor grassroots football and scouting system we have here. Players are scouted based mainly on physical attributes over technical ability which is ridiculous.

Think they could still be caught out in some way. A few years ago they were sanctioned for receiving a sponsorship deal by Qatar which was deemed to to be incorrectly valued. They'll have taken it into consideration though, which essentially just makes the money involved even more ridiculous.

wasn't that Man City with their stadium deal?

I think it might be much harder to nail PSG for Neymar as there's (presumably) not a jot of any financial transaction within their books around the situation/

also reports that they'll pay £120M for him.

If Liverpool have to take the cash I'm guessing they're not going to be the most-pissed off club in the world when selling a player they paid just £8M for.

Are Liverpool becoming the new Arsenal? :P

So... Who cares about the Community Shield anyway? Sigh.

  1. Chelsea's squad is thinner than Asda smart price packet ham. We need to sign players who can compete for a place in the starting 11, asap. There is definitely trouble in paradise as far as Conte is concerned. If this isn't solved soon, things could get nasty.
  2. Goalkeepers should only ever take the final penalty, period. Half expected to wake up this morning and find the ball from Courtois' kick in my garden. Not a fan of the Abba format.

That's how little Liverpool do it isn't it? Buy them young, develop and sell them on, bit like spurs have done last 20 years.

They both have a great way of doing it, if only they can keep them to finish the job.

It's never been the same since it stopped being the Charity Shield, and it meant fuck all then too.

The ABBA format didn't make Courtois hammer it over the bar, or a £58m striker scuff his kick wide.

Very true. Gone are the days when we had Lamps, Ashley Cole and Drogba slotting them home in shoot outs. Then again so are the days of Terry slipping. Swings and roundabouts I spose.

Fun Community Shield fact... When I was 11, I entered a comp in Match magazine to draw the front cover of the programme. Won the thing, went to the game in Cardiff. Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-1. Drogba scored a brace and 50 odd thousand fans walked round with little old me's drawing on their match day programme haha.

Twelve years later and I have never achieved anything remotely as exciting since. Probs a bit better with a colouring pencil now though.

I know you're a Chelsea fan, and I'm sorry, but in my 30-odd years of watching football nothing will ever be funnier than Terry's penalty slip and subsequent tears.

In my near 40 years watching football, it's got to be Gerrards slip hasn't it?

Don't worry mate, I can laugh at it now. Not sure what was more tragic, that or four years later when JT thought the only way to upstage the tears would be by collecting the trophy in a full kit despite being suspended and playing no part in the game?

Didn't realise how much you baggies hated wolves until I worked with a baggies workforce.

It's fair to say we're not huge fans of theirs, historically Villa were our main rivals, but years in the second tier in the 90's and 00's made the rivalry very intense. Now we hate them both equally.

Everything about him is just despicable.

My old flatmate acquired a framed photo of Terry crying after that final, it hung in our toilet for a while.
