Possibly a controversial take here and I may be completely off the mark, but if we are talking about strictly rock music, as Chad mentioned, then I really can’t see many bands that have formed in the last decade having the same longevity and ability to consistently headline major festivals as those that were formed over a decade ago. I don’t think pop music will struggle as much. I can see Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, take your pick, consistently headlining major festivals in 20 years. I just can’t think of any bands from the last decade that will do the same. Fontaines D.C. may well headline in 2 years, but will they in 20?
Don’t bother reading Chadderz’ Spotify listeners and chart positions chat. Just know that Fontaines DC have shifted a headliner number of tickets for the current tour and their outdoor shows next year. That is all a promoter sees and what they’re seeing is big bucks in Fontaines DC.
Their next album, they headline the Main Stage. Not as one of the 6, but as one of the 3 big draws. Mark my words.
