I don't want to be THAT guy but I really believe that the set will be ruined by the football being on the screen at the same time.  People will naturally be chatting, cheering/jeering whenever goals are scored or almost scored, chanting about football coming home over the top of the music.

I fully appreciate that a lot of people want to watch the football but I can't see why it should be done in a way that could potentially spoil things for people who would prefer to enjoy the bands.  It's not a popular opinion but actually the priority ought to be ensuring that people enjoy the event they actually paid for.   I hope they can sort out the football for people as well but not at the expense of the music.

I think the sense of entitlement from some people on the social media feeds is a bit much actually.

Slowdive are one of the main reasons I’m going (and paying for flights and hotel) and it will be great to experience them AND the football.  That will be a unique experience if the game can be shown in silence on a big screen but if it can’t I’ll follow it on my phone one way or another. 

I do see your point,  but it’s unavoidable that this won’t be like a normal Slowdive show. Even if the people just keep up with the score on the BBC feed, or the band keep the audience abreast of the score, it will change the dynamic of the show. This can be a good thing, it’s not going to be a run of the mill festival  set. I think it would be best to embrace the situation, as the band seem prepared to do

The idea of screening it alongside Slowdive is so ridiculous. If you want to watch the football then watch it in a pub.

What @TomViolence said. I've no problem them putting up screens somewhere for people to watch the football but showing it in a way that is going to impact on the enjoyment of a band's set is not on. The are plenty of facilities available in the rest of London if you want to watch it. If you're watching the match you won't be watching the bands anyway so just come along after it's finished.

You’re missing the point. I’m not going to London to watch a football match in a grotty pub, I’m going to see Slowdive. That experience would be better if they were a dreamy soundtrack to England winning a World Cup Quarter Final. 

And who looks at the screens normally when a band they like is on - you look at the band.

The vast majority of people at a big concert like Hyde Park look at the screens!

I look at the screens because I am small and can rarely see the stage over peoples heads. Although if everyone throwing a hissy about the football is not actually going to show up til 6pm then it probably means I'll have a great view until then. Cheers guys!

I also find screens distracting, even if I am in a position where I can see the band I often find myself watching the screens even when I don't really want to. If there were showing something other than the band it would be even worse.

The organisers would need to buy a license to show it too and I imagine that wouldn't be cheap. Why would they spend the money when the event is sold out? They would sell more beer but the drink franchise is probably sold to someone else who take the profits, so they wouldn't see any of that. So there isn't really a plus side for them but a downside in possibly upsetting fans who have come for the music and not football.

I bought my ticket in December. I didn't know until the Belgium game whether we would be playing on Friday and Saturday so I actually don't think your argument is valid here. The clash wasn't always evident. Had we topped the group the match would have been tomorrow.

I am going for Slowdive and Interpol (Pornography is one of my fave albums of all time but I doubt The Cure will venture down that path) and I would be over the moon to mix football in with that. My two favourite things in the world. What an amazing and unique opportunity that would be. Anyway I'm sure Slowdive licensed a track to FIFA so they might be friendly to letting us know the score at the very least.

According to the app, Squeeze finish at 19.40 and Roger starts at 19.50. So no overlap but you'll need to sprint if you want to catch all of both. I'll happily miss all/part of Squeeze but I'm not sure that sentiment is shared with the rest of the group.

I’ve always had GA tickets and gone in within half an hour of the GA entrance time and been ok every time.

You mean, you always bought a standard GA ticket, not a primary entry one? Actually I thought you had an experience of going in with a primary entry ticket (that costs slightly more than a standard GA) hence my question.

Does anybody out there give me a good suggestion as to my question?

Surely the fact there’s been no official announcement on the big screen with all the questions suggests they’re trying for it? 

When I saw Paul McCartney there in Hyde Park they had England v Germany on a screen near the sound desk during Elvis Costello.

I can't imagine they would sell more primary entry tickets than there is capacity in the front section, otherwise what's the point? But then they do seem to like money. They might have sold even more this year. I've never had primary entry and have always managed to make the front section when I've tried in the past.

That clash would have had me even more torn. 

TBH, I think that the lack of announcement indicates that it's not going to be shown.

When I saw Blur there a few years ago, no-one even asked for or looked at my ticket. I just walked in and had my bag checked.
