Exactly, there is nothing stopping them doing R+L, and no other dates could just indicate they use they could use festivals as the start to new music and a future tour for a new album. Also if the organizers have had someone big pull out, or are struggling to get big names like people suggest, i wouldnt be surpised if AM have at least been considered. Im sure there wouldnt be too many complaints if they were announced.

I think it would be pretty great if R&L had got the Arctics as an exclusive "comeback show" gig, even if their new album is as festival unfriendly as Tranquility Base is perceived to be.

But equally, I'm aware that's a bit of a longshot.

If what Dan says is true, I could see someone Like vampire weekend underneath him Playing a slightly longer set than usual subs But with him headlining out right. Or I could see if Stormzy does play a Liam Gallagher and maybe Catfish and the Bottlemen co-headline

If Dan is chatting bollocks I can see Gorillaz-Travis/LG-BMTH and Biffy or Blink still 

although I do think that a larger band like RATM or dare I say it again MCR will play the Sunday and BMTH co with Gorillaz

Why would Arctic Monkeys do Reading as an exclusive comeback show? I don’t think they have as much of a sentimental connection with the place as some suggest they do.

This just reads like fan fiction to me. I know Arctic Monkeys are band heavily in demand to do R&L again but they aren’t gonna do it on a year that they are not active.

Hence why I suggested longshot. I'm aware there's a big constituency that wants them back at R&L, to the point where I seem to recall a lot of people were annoyed they didn't play the 2018 event after being rumoured beforehand. If anything, I think they have a more sentimental connection with Glastonbury, judging by things I read around the time of their 2013 Pyramid headline slot.

Though if the last few of their album cycles have been anything to go by, AM's comeback show is probably going to be somewhere in the USA.

Probably far too farfetched, But with the announcement delay and AM Supposedly working on a new album, perhaps they’re waiting for the official announcement of the new Album and AM’s return before the festival announcement. 
they’re one of the few bands r &l would make such a risky move for. But then again I think the delay probably because they’re struggling to book acts

If AM are doing anything this summer they will be at something else as well as R&L. Has there ever been an example in recent years where R&L have bagged someone on a worldwide exclusive?

It just doesn’t happen. It’s a fiction put forward by fans who want AM there. Also I don’t think AM have ever done a one off festival headlining performance in their career.

Every time Reading/Leeds have announced bands for the last 3/4 years, the comments on Twitter/Facebook are always along the lines of “good joke, now announce Arctic Monkeys” 😂

 

Would be huge if they pulled it off this year but I think it’s extremely unlikely.

Its gotta be kids who never saw them during the AM era which think R&L booking AM again would be a once in a lifetime gig. I feel really old and I’m not old at all.

Courteeners just got announced as subbing Kings of Leon at Finsbury Park in late June.

Not sure if that affects the money some had on them subbing Liam Gallagher at R&L as I think was previously mentioned.

I can't remember the last festival anywhere to say "worldwide exclusive" booking in fairness. Usually its just a UK or European exclusive, which I've seen in the past - Muse did R&L in 2011 and 2017 as a European exclusive, for one. But then maybe it has been done in the past and I've just forgotten it.
