Feels weird that they now have a month off after Singapore, and just as weird Singapore had no safety car given it had until now been guaranteed safety cars.

But I guess that had to end sometime. Norris demolishing the field is what he needs, but he needed Verstappen to finish somewhere lower than P2.

I nodded off about halfway through was looking like a dull one ....

Oh I agree it wasn't an incredible race. Singapore is usually a bit more chaotic than that but it was all quite clean and professional this time.

There is an ethical quandry about Red Bull's junior team pitting Ricciardo at the end to take a fastest lap point away from Norris. Even if it seems to be in the duality of wondering if Ricciardo is now going to be let go and replaced for the final six races by Liam Lawson.

Don't think I've seen a reaction so negative to the handling of a driver's status as that of Red Bull dropping Ricciardo today. I know a lot of it has come to his media-friendliness but it's easy to forget he was great at Red Bull before his move and even then had a decent season with Renault in 2020. Plus the bizarre way they essentially gave him a last-race-by-accident at Singapore without figuring out if they actually were dropping him didn't help.

And I say this having been ok with the idea that, for 2025, his time had come and somebody else was worth a go to see if they could survive the Red Bull driver roulette.

Yeah it has been handled pretty strangely. Everyone pretty much knew Singapore was his last race but for a driver who has had a career as good as Ricciardo, being dropped after a race and not having one last official hurrah is a bit flat.

He hasn't been great, but nor has VCARB's ridiculous strategy this year. Red Bull seem a bit desperate I think. The motivation for giving Lawson the last 6 races I'd imagine is they don't have faith in Yuki or Danny to be good enough for Red Bull, so they want to see if Liam can overperform and become front runner for when they inevitably decide to replace Perez at some point in the not too distant future. Their driver programme has always been consistently good since the late 00s but they are in a position now where if Max seeks pastures new, they don't really have a lot of exciting options and may have to look elsewhere... I think Lawson seems decent and deserves a shot, but I don't think these last 6 races are going to make the difference for him being 'ready' for Red Bull or not...

Well after a month off, Red Bull have looked a bit more like their old selves this weekend, Ferrari's upgrade seems to have brought them closer to the top and Mercedes' weekend looks like it's already peaked in Friday practice.

Race with Lando on pole but a track where starting P2 is usually the better place to start from makes for an interesting start in a few hours time.

A good race in isolation but one that has definitely simmered hopes for a final race championship decider.

Some weird penalty decisions yesterday but I think the right call was made on Lando vs Max. He just got impatient after trying the same thing for several laps and expecting a different result. Even though the 'apex' is open to interpretation, he did not brake late enough to make the corner. Makes the championship battle a bit more pie in the sky but fair play to Max, he has maximised every weekend this year and Lando just hasn't.

Lawson to Red Bull and Colapinto to Sauber next year? Surely...

Certainly I think Norris now needs a Verstappen DNF if he's going to win the championship. There's certainly an argument Max could've been penalised for forcing Norris off track but Norris made the issue about himself in that one by overtaking off track, so it is what it is I guess.

The constructor's title, however, does look interesting - Perez is still driving badly, and if the Ferrari dominance that saw them take a 1/2 in Austin can be sustained, it means Red Bull are at risk of only being third in the Constructor's. Last time a driver won the title with a car that wasn't in the top 2 in the championship was the early 1980s, so it's not a frequent thing.

Sauber still seem not to have made their mind up. Colapinto would be a great hire and has proven so, but it requires the right deal between them & Williams to facilitate that. Same if McLaren's prodigy and current F2 championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto were to head their way, as was also a rumour.

Some race that although sadly the drivers championship is over .... Great drive from max as much I want Lando to win it that was faultless from him

Yeah it looks like game, set and match for Max. Think it'll be official if he wins in Las Vegas in 2/3 weeks.

Last time somebody started P17 and won a Grand Prix was Kimi Raikkonen in 2005, which was a similarly legendary drive. Curiously the team that is now called Alpine (then Renault) were also P2/3 at that one, and Alpine today did a brilliant drive to get their first double podium in 11 years and more points than all the other races this year combined.

If Norris gets a penalty for the miscommunication that lead to a second formation lap, that's probably making his championship hopes even more over.

f1-75-live-tickets_02-12-25_17_67322510c

So in February, ahead of the new season and F1's 75th year, they're booking the London O2 Arena for livery reveals for all of the 10 teams for 2025, presenting all the drivers and having a few musical performers.

I'm curious to see how this'll work differently to the usual F1 car unveiling show, given a lot do genuinely still like each team having a half hour waffle in which sheets are pulled off to reveal the car's looks.

Still, also something different amid a week where half the FIA's senior staff seem to have been forced out and where Monaco is getting a contract extension for its 78 parade laps.

Quite a lot going on there in Las Vegas - Max champion as expected, Mercedes probably having their best race in years with a 1/2, Ferrari squabbling, several teams screwing up pit stops. Dunno if it was worth getting up at 6am for but it wasn't boring.

Was a good race to be fair! Wasn't assed about catching it really with the championship foregone conclusion but my baby had other ideas so I found myself feeding her at 5.55am and thought 'why not'? 😂

I really am convinced 2025 has the potential to be an all timer! Always love a final year before rule changes. Just wish Sainz was in the fight!
