A few places today suggesting if Madrid don't get Courtois that their second choice is Pickford.. Coupled with the suggestion he's Chelsea's first choice replacement that seems to suggest he's off..

I'll be a bit disappointed but there are bigger worries at the club namely that defence. If we go into another season with one of Jagielka or Williams with Keane (who has been dire pre-season) as our two centre backs I'd have Everton down as serious strugglers now.

The club needs a decent profit on Pickford to repair the damage of Walsh and the Bolasie, Klassen, Keane, Sandro transfers. With question marks on if Sigurdsson can play in Silva's system that maybe a serious amount of money to write off on those five.

Bailly anyway yeah. Great prospect if he stays fit. Lindelof will be sold if someone else comes in. 

Just normal mind games from Mourinho. To what end I don't know but you'd swear the club are about to close up shop going by the media.

I read somewhere that the contract (like with Moyes and lvg) has a clause in it which makes it cheaper to sack the manager if they fail to get top 4. So they'd hold out sacking him until top 4 is impossible.

I'd probably say publically having a go at martial and the club is fair grounds for coverage.

Could very easily happen yep. Hes still living in the Lowry and his wife and kids still live in London.

Mourinho is just doing his usual pressuring the club for signings shtick. No news there.

Lol what? Haven't heard this anywhere, can't find anything on Google and it would be a ridiculous signing seeing as he's worse than their current keeper and they can get Courtois for free next Summer.

Plus if Everton are willing to let Pickford go then Chelsea will be willing to let Courtois go (as they can get Pickford to replace him), so it makes no sense that Real would have any interest in him. Where have you seen this?

Ha, he had a baby and it's some pre season friendlies.  It's perfectly reasonable for him to go back home!

Clearly the coverage is just because there's not actually much else happening right now, and Mourinho is becoming a bit of a parody so it's the early signs of the predicted meltdown so it gets attention. 

As a reason to take some leave the birth of a child is justified, taking a week away for is hardly outrageous, and it's pretty well known that Mourinho doesn't want him as a player.

A few places quoting the spanish press.. It came up on the beeb feed this morning at 10:15ish I think.

Yes Chelsea could get Pickford but the amounts quoted are different. Apparently Everton want £75m whilst they will lose  Courtois for less as you mentioned due to his contact.

Yep which is why i'd be happy to sell for that.. He's probably the best English keeper but only just so say pope for £30m and a defender would make more sense. Cash in whilst the hype is at ridiculous levels and our neighbours have just set an interesting price for keepers.

I would think thats a Chelsea price rather than Madrid due to the transfers involved in premiership to premiership clubs. £35m for Rojo today also sounds insane.

Was there much point? Flying between the UK and US four times in a week to maybe play 45 minutes of a friendly. Sounds more draining than anything, can't imagine it having any benefit for fitness really.

Presumably he meant fly back after the birth, not fly back for each game.

I agree, my point was more about Nal saying it was perfectly reasonable for him to return to the states. He has an incredible valid reason for not being there and itd likely be detrimental him rushing back.

Chelsea won't sign Pickford. Think the price of Alisson was what prevented them from making a bid for him so it's unlikely that they will shell out as much, if not more, on Pickford... I think that Courtois will stay for one more season before leaving next summer. He'll probably even sign a deal with Madrid in January when he will be free to speak to European clubs... It's a difficult one. The club didn't want it to get to this stage and did offer several contracts over the last 18 months but hey ho, the lad wants to be in Spain.

Morata took two days off to be with his wife whilst she gave birth in Italy. He's in the squad for the game against Arsenal tonight in Dublin.

Different circumstances I know, just interesting with the debate going on at the moment.
