M6 closed at J33

M6 closed all lanes, both directions J36 to J32. Due to bridge damage there is likely to be a closure for a few days, although they may open up some other junctions. If you're coming from the east (or further south) go up the M1 / A1(M) and cut across on the A66 to Penrith. The A6 seems the obvious route but it will be chocca!

A65 from the A1/ M1 is another option. There are actually problems with slow traffic on both the A66 and A65 and a few others due to "construction" and a broken down HGV on the A66.

Stock up on snacks, water and a bottle to pee in, its going to be a long day for some.

The M6 is now fully open in both directions. However, the high winds often lead to trucks falling over on the Shap section ( south of Penrith, north of Kendal town). So be aware that there may be delays and  keep a good distance from trucks.

This link is the local police traffic reports https://www.cumbria.police.uk/Traffic/Traffic.aspx

Radio Cumbria is also goof for traffic news, not so much on Sunday but just before the half hour and hour weekday mornings late afternoon, just before the hour the rest of the day.
