  1. 1. If The Cure were to headline would you be there? I'm intrigued due to the varied opinions of them on here.

    • Yes - Definitely, regardless of who else is on the other stages.
      209
    • More than likely - Depending on strength of the clashes on other stages.
      262
    • Unlikely - Know a couple of songs but there would probably be something else on you'd watch instead.
      194
    • No - Never been a fan so will definitely be elsewhere.

Settled then, Macca cancels Phoenix in the states to play Friday and Arctics play Sunday.

On a more serious note, I just can't see Arctics playing Friday 3 times running and for them to play Saturday or Sunday means one of The Cure or Macca are wrong.

@eFestivals any chance that Macca info you have was actually meant for next year?

everything is possible, including that it's entirely wrong.

I've thought over what I was told for both macca and the cure this morning, and my conclusion is that the cure info is more likely to be correct than the macca info - but that doesn't mean I'm disbelieving the macca info.

On balance I think the macca info is very likely to be right too - but I won't know until it's announced or not.

Fair! Arctics Friday again....as long as Janelle is topping WHs that night.

i very much hope this happens.

Something to consider, i don't know if it would make any difference. Say the Cure are playing 15 Euro festivals in 2019. This becomes less of a coup for the festival, in a way? Would that detract from them doing it? I hope not.

I think they'd be a great headliner and as one of three suited to a bit of an older crowd and a "proper" indie band this would leave it open for something a lot more pop and/or newer for one of the other pyramid headliners which you'd expect.

Another one announced: https://www.colours.cz/about-festival/news/the-cure-to-play-colours-of-ostrava-2019!

How many is that now? Four?

Of the about 20 summer festivals they said they'd play, yes we are at four:

  • June 16th: Firenze Rocks
  • June 28th: Rock Werchter
  • July 17th: Ejekt, Athens
  • July 17-20th: Colours of Ostrava

The Cure announced for Hurricane/Southside in Germany, the weekend before Glastonbury. Not sure if we should count that as one or two festivals. :P

  • June 16th: Firenze Rocks, Italy
  • June 21-23th: Hurricane/Southside, Germany
  • June 28th: Rock Werchter, Belgium
  • July 17th: Ejekt, Athens, Greece
  • July 17-20th: Colours of Ostrava, Czech Republic

I imagine they’re counting it as two, or they’re selling themselves short!

Still no back to back shows in places as far as Belgium and UK. Feeling pretty sure they’re Sunday if they’re there.

How likely do we think that they'd go from Belgium on the Friday to Sunday on the Pyramid. Having reacquainted myself with thier 'popular' songs I really want it to happen. Would be a great addition!

Yeah, I had a quick look at their 2016 tour dates recently and other than a couple of instances like Norway to Sweden and Austria to Hungary they seemed to avoid back to back dates in different countries. Sunday does feel much more likely.

Most likely name we have at the moment, I’m pretty sure. As a current non-ticket holder it’s quite comforting to know that they’re at every other field in Europe this summer. Pyramid will be special though.

Yep I noticed in your prediction you were thinking the same. Seems like they’re touring for long enough that these 20-odd festivals won’t be crammed together and they won’t be rushing between countries.

and BST and Meltdown last year.

Ah course, I forget about the non-camping festivals.. but even including them, it's weird they've not done more. Considering they've only done three albums this century, they've done some massive tours.

EDIT: 393 gigs since 2000 according to setlist.fm. Might be missing a few like, but eh 20 a year..

they don't play much in this country because there isn't huge interest in them in this country - but they also insist on being headliner, which limits their opportunities.

Only seen em twice. Was unlucky at Manchester last year, set was cut short cos Robert was ill. Yeah, The Cure are bigger elsewhere but sure there's still enough interest for them to be worth booking as headliner for any British festival.

As far as insisting on headlining goes, I still can't believe Roger Waters agreed to sub in 2002.

as it happens i know a little about that.

as far as michael was concerned waters was the headliner.

rod stewart, meanwhile, demanded - diva styleee - to play last.

yup. Ultimately, if anyone killed it, it was them.

Lol it lasted a few years after their headline slot. Never went, know a few people who did but never heard any reports of it being that short of a sell out crowd and listing on here says it was sold out. Dunno what The Cure charge for headlining, like.
