I thought he meant one of the replacements for Flo cancelled, explaining why it took so long to fill.

But even if The Libs had been booked instantly it would have been billed the same, wouldn't it? If they didn't want to bill them as a secret set/special guests they'd surely have announced them whenever they managed to get them signed up.

I imagine they were billed that way either because R&L prevented them from being announced, or because Glasto wanted it to be a secret set, not because the slot was filled late.

no idea, but it's not impossible that the words 'special guests' were used as filler.

It was a slot that was unbooked until a short time before the festival, so if the words 'special guests' were used they would have applied to any band who got booked into that slot.

It was down as TBA. I found out as I was jigging to Lulu in Avalon and dissed them for The Proclaimers on Acoustic Stage. That and a fish finger sandwich.

Rather than a 'special guest' set opening Other, is there any reason such a slot couldn't happen on the Pyramid? Would settle any concerns over overcrowding and still massage Noel's who as it's a 'special guest slot and would undoubtedly pull a huge crowd.

I reckon this too. Noel "opening the festival" but on the Pyramid.

I stepping away from calling it Rolf's slot.

Nah, Bjorn Again do that every 10 years.  What with the new film last year and tour and songs this year, the time is perfect.  I'll be there.

EDIT: They're playing Sheffield at the start of July, so are about.

Aren't Hacienda Classical doing that on Friday again on the Pyramid?, think that's almost set. Given he's playing Exeter on Sunday night I think he's be playing early on Friday so he can then enjoy as much of Friday and Saturday before going to Exeter for Sunday.

He won't be playing opposite Stormzy as crowd wise that's just a backlash waiting to happen, he's not subbing obviously as that's set for Liam if Gambino doesn't play. I reckon they had two subs nailed down at the time and that Liam would fit in as sub on whichever day, he was just happy to do it.

that was rather unique reasons.

Essentially, that was to make clear that Kasabian were not being presented as a 4th headliner which there'd been a lot of talk about by the fest for that year.

They couldn't announce something as "just a band", so 'special guests' became the way of making that clear without seeming to diss the band.

Which makes it the opposite of any special status.

How many of these are possible? Starcrawler surley & If the B-52's land on Worthy Farm i'm going to up my game for a ticket

unfortunately not Wilco. I'm also slightly worried that Mavis Staples may be flying over directly after her last Europe appearance on thurs/27th for an appearance at their Solid Sound festival on the saturday or even sunday finale

laughing (as I am sure the Wilco lads will be as well) at the thought of Tesla and some Pantera offshoot as the 2 bands preceding  Wilco - I'm sure they'll be booked on sight for Solid Sound 2021

Had posted about them in another thread but that July date makes it much more of a reality. Was meant to see them before Xmas but missed it due to ill health, opening the Pyramid one morning would be a perfect way to start the day.

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere already. Did anyone hear the interview?

I did but I was only half listening in work.

They're nailed on for this or next year, I'd guess at this year with new music dropping

Has this one been discussed? Info comes from the Daily Star but as we like to dissect everything regardless and it supports what many are expecting:

https://www.glastofestfeed.com/latest/news/liam-noel-gallagher-reportedly-kept-apart-glastonbury-2019/

Summary - they're saying Noel's playing Saturday. Liam before Stormzy.

I'm going to put it out there that he's opening the Pyramid on Saturday. Bit if a extra opener like Bootleg Beatles were.

Maybe I'm being naive, but with a Gallagher subbing Stormzy would they not consider congestion issues, ie the older demographic flooding out to avoid watching a non-white person without a guitar

Bootlegs are a regular sized Pyramid opener. Noel is notably bigger. If he’s playing the Saturday then as Macca’s sub seems the most obvious slot - don’t really see where else he’d fit in as he obviously isn’t gonna go up against McCartney.

Tbh Bootlegs do about 3rd down in Acoustic which I'd put a bit higher than opening Pyramid. Subbing Macca is obviously an option if indeed Macca is Saturday but I reckon opening is very much an option.

Bootleg Bob and the lads headlined the Acoustic against the Stones.

Did third down Acoustic in 2016 though, because they only have a pool of about forty acts that play that stage.

Was cos they played with an orchestra. Orchestra open stages cos they need hours to set up all the players. This is also why Hacienda Classical won’t be moving up the Pyramid lineup.

I still think Hacienda Classical is a red herring. Speaks of a real lack of imagination.  Has there been anything new on it or is it still gossip timestamped from the 2017 festival?

I agree but I don't see why they'd say they're playing if they're not. The quote was from December 2017 btw not the 2017 festival.

"We're booked for the year after this."

Worth noting that he said nothing about opening the Pyramid again. Unless I've missed another quote since then that just seems to be an assumption that people have started to take as fact.

Their main man said they'd been booked again on the basis of the successful set in 2017. They've announced 2 dates the weekend before. I agree it seems an unusual repeat booking, but it's happening.
