It's like the room of requirement - the new map only ever drops when you most need it (i.e. a shitty day) and comes totally out of nowhere. Map day is second only to full line up drop day for me. There's no thread more exciting than Glastocam during the build. Fence Day is a highlight of the year.

Second only to the Foo Fighters Cheese & Grain thread and one man’s valiant (and successful) attempt to get into that gig.
priest17
I really don't get the love for the dropping of the map. Until they do something drastic like swap the truth stage with the pyramid it's rarely worth properly thinking about.

Just builds the anticipation for me.
SwedgeAntilles
Individual Area Announcements and Clashfinder are the highlights for me. That would genuinely be a festival in its own right 😍

It's true of many Glastonbury areas though - Theatre & Circus, Kidzfield, SE Corner, Greenfields could all stand on their own as specialist individual festivals. I always describe it as more of a collection of festivals.

Last year was an eye opener for us, we went for a wander around the site in April just before they closed the site down to the public, they had just put the dress on the pyramid, had started building the bee hive thing at Greenpeace and had started putting in the foundations for Pangea. Other than those there was nothing of real note that had started being built but when we turned up on the sunday before the festival for work the change and amount of work being put in was remarkable. I know there were issues timewise with the Pier etc but they do a fantastic job of putting that place together
