This thread has descended into a pointlessly repetitive cycle of the same arguments being presented and debunked. We really need Ku Fu Kenny to be announced and finally put us out of our collective misery.

Think then the chat would shift to another massive act that probably isn’t playing.

Hmmm, really? He's a well respected rapper, but not as big as Eminem, Drake etc. I mean somebody mentioned Post Malone earlier, even he sold more albums than Kendrick last year, and that's assuming it's a rapper. Could be Elton, Bruno Mars, John Legend, could be Justin bloody Beiber for all we know.

The fact that Emily has posted about being a fan could be a clue, but a clue is just a clue.

Honestly, there are lots of big male acts that haven't played Glastonbury. The guy announces a few festivals shows and suddenly everybody thinks they're fucking Poirot.

Acclaimed doesn't necessarily mean best selling.

He's one of the most critically acclaimed artists in the world.

There's no 'easy' booking (looking at you Coldplay and Muse), they've managed to bag Aerosmith in a non-headline slot and potentially 1975 in a secret slot. What else do people want?

Diana Ross please (and a ticket ideally).

Honestly, this in the dark on the pyramid would be a bit of a moment. If she could get the Stormzy treatment for album 3 that would be great

By 3rd album it won't even be Stormzy treatment, it'll be Ed Sheeran inevitable big enough to headline treatment. British and will have played festival a few times before.

Sometimes people just aren't interested in certain acts or genres and it's not related to politics, age, race or gender.

I meant that in the sense that explaining how Kendrick is a great hip hop headliner, Macca is a great rock/pop headliner, and Taylor is a great pop headliner, means nothing to people who just want rock.

True on a personal / individual level, but it is worth acknowledging that this takes place in a wider context where certain acts and genres do often generate disproportionate criticism.

Be interesting to see what happens with Kenny. Despite his high critical profile I can see it being a bit divisive. And some of the naysaying probably will be worthy of scrutiny.

Honestly that’s wasn’t what I intended with the original post but I guess this argument is valid too.

My point was that it’s useless to try and sell a varied trio to people who just want rock bands headlining. The best thing to do is just book diverse trios and ignore the criticism. They won’t be satisfied with any attempt to sell them something different than what they want.

But nobody said they "just want rock". And you just brought up Brexit and politics out of nowhere in two successive posts during a conversation about headliners.

This should obviously never be an apolitical forum but trying to pin the opinions of people on festival headliners onto a popular 'good vs. bad'/'right vs. wrong'/'us vs. them' theme is ridiculous and tiresome, even in a fairly partisan place like this.

Some, yeah. But pretending these acts are infallible and any criticism is worth scrutinising is dumb. His biggest televised UK thing must be the BRIT Awards where he shat the bed big-time.

All racists won't like black rappers, yes. Doesn't mean not liking rap music is racist though. Same with misogyny and female pop acts.

With regard to what happens with Kendrick, was there widespread scrutiny about Stormzy after his performance? I thought people just said "yes he nailed it" and carried on. It wasn't until later in the year when he was misquoted as saying Britain was "100% racist" that he really set people off.

Kendrick hasn't permeated culture in this country outside of hip hop fans really. Not like Kanye / Jay Z & Stormzy did before they headlined.

When I have spoken to people about him headlining, there is a definite sense of "who?". That's from a pretty wide age range, at work & my glastonbury going friends. (One of them has now started listening to him & is up for watching him)

It can only be a good thing that newer / different style acts are headlining... well for most people. You'll always have some unhappy folk.

Regardless of the debate about where she'd be placed... are we quite confident Dua Lipa will be at GF playing somewhere?

Also, no chance of Lorde anywhere?

Yeah. She's rumoured in the papers, she's touring at the time and she's one of the UK's biggest pop stars who hasn't played in a couple of years.

Also, no chance of Lorde anywhere.

She popped up a few months ago to say that something personal within her family has halted her production of her new album. I think she’s sitting 2020 out to either take some time off or focus on the album.

Really excited and hopeful that she will be around in 2021.

Reckon she is nailed on to be there.  Where do we think - subbing the Pyramid or headlining the other?

Her new one is a completer banger - will sound great live.  Sounding good for her new album so far

Wouldn't surprise me if Dua was as low as 3rd down on Pyramid. Didn't Ed Sheeran play that slot on his second album? Then onto headliner (like she will be on album 3). Would be nice to see her in the dark but doubt she's going to insist on a sub slot.

I know I already posted it but can't get over how good 'Physical' is.
