The Co-Op at Glastonbury

How would the co-op differ to the existing on-site shops?

I recall in (in 2014 maybe?) being able to buy a crate of lager, some ice and a big tub when we had ran out of tent beers.

I'm sure we paid through the eyeballs for it (but it was worth every penny as we had all reached peak warm tent beer fatigue?)

I don't recall any shops at Glastonbury being able to sell crates of beer.

Yep - I've never heard of that either!

Could have sworn there was one place that sold beer in 2014, never saw it again the following year.

Gotta go with what others are gonna say. Glastonbury has put a straight out ban across the site. Bars, ice cream trucks and probably co op too. No plastic bottles.

Awkward to be preventing one of their top sellers and one that many punters want. There has to be a way to allow wine sales. Actually I live in Spain near some bodegas where you take whatever bottle you like and fill it from their massive barrels. They can see or can guess how many litres your container holds. Works very well. Even so.. fluids have to be contained in something.. canned wine? I suppose it can be tried if it's massively better environmentally.

What about wine boxes? Yes they contain plastic .. but the ban is on single use bottles isn't it? Dear god we need to be allowed wine!

Well true.. and I will... I just even like looking at it ;) If I could actually depend on there being boxes I would go for them mind.

Yes. Usually a bit rank but they do exist. Plus pouches.

Ha just remembered here in Spain they do lunchables- always makes me smile to see packed-lunch sized little cartons of red or white wine sold in 3's ;)

You missed out - it was glorious!

I hadn't seen one before and have never seen once since.. I'm trying to think back to where it was, possibly an ice shop? (i.e. not the yellow 'sell everything shops')  Either way, it'd be v handy to have them back/ have co-op selling crates, for sure!

Not long to go now!!

if it was near the red dot then it sounds you were able to wander into the Wholesale market - there is Security on that gate but I have heard that non traders have been able to get in on a few occasions.I remember the 80's when it was chock a block of people flogging all sorts of stuff all over the site - all sorts of Cans that I have never seen before and in the blazing sunshine must have been scalding { yes there was a few dry years but not 85 - the first year there was a serious mud problem }

Hmmm doesn't ring a bell! Certainly don't remember any gates, it was a stall  - and more towards the park way... either way it sounds like it was pretty elusive (or like they shouldn't have been selling crates in the first place!)  and doesn't look like they do it any more.... I really want to know where I was now!  I remember Fatboy slim was playing nearby during the day..... never mind! Fingers crossed for co-op!

That doesn't really narrow it down, tbh!

I do like the Co-op. I’m a member. Got a card and all that malarkey. They push the fair trade stuff. Big on local causes close to each store. Spend over £250 in 12 months and you can attend their AGM or vote online via the Chairperson on the basic items on the agenda.

But by fuckery it’s the most uncooperative they’ve ever been not confirming this booze thing.

if you walk past it ' there is no gates ' but security call it a gate - in fact the way the hedge is ' you cant really see anything ' beyond the path and they certainly don't advertise it.

if it was a stall then its not that place and it could be a Joker - the DPS { person responsible for all alcohol sales } has his/her own security team and they will shut down any stall or bars that is not authorised to be there which may explain why you cant find it again.

Ha ha!  Out of upvotes but totally agree.  Their values are very good - in fact our local village hall has got thousands in grants through them so fair play to them.  But let us know the situation about booze for fucks sake!!!

I’ve asked them on Twitter. Will probably get a ‘dunno’, but worth a go.

Yeah me too.  I've pointed out to them that Glasto goers are a little bit obsessive and need to plan their festival and they are not helping with this.
