WEATHER EXPERTS - Advice please...

Morning all!

It’ll be a bit of relief to have a weather thread that isn’t related to Glastonbury for a change...

Due to fly to Orlando on Thursday. I know nothing of hurricanes living in tropical Wales.

Does anyone with any meteorological knowledge have any idea how long Hurricanes normally take to pass? We’re due to land Thursday evening. With the worst of it seemingly on Monday morning does anyone have any idea what the chances are of the airport being up and running again by Thursday?

Bloody Dorian ?

I've no meteorological knowledge but I think a large hurricane would pass over in a couple of days max. Also the airport is likely to be the first thing to open afterwards so I reckon you should be ok.

You should be ok by Thursday and Florida shouldn't be battered as bad. However on the radio this morning they have said it is an unusual hurricane as the winds have not reduced and they normally do.

Oh and I have heard that it has picked up all the sharks in the ocean and carrying them inland. Buy a chainsaw is the advice I have heard.

Edit - just seen this on BBC -

landfall point, if any, uncertain.

The NHC said that Dorian's slow weakening would continue, but it would remain "a powerful hurricane during the next couple of days" and would "move dangerously close to the Florida east coast" on Monday night through to Wednesday evening.

(probably liberal BBC nonsense of course)

It's a strange one for sure. The fact it only moved at 1mph for near enough a full day seems a bit mad. Horrible for the people affected.

Orlando Airport reversed their decision to close initially but have now closed again. All reports seem to show it's moving North but if it's only going to move at 1mph then it'll be there for weeks!
