The old Birmingham Academy underneath Argos was brilliant, worked there for a couple of years and had a great time. Highlight was when Prodigy turned up with their own sound system that was designed for outdoor shows! We couldn’t turn any lights on the bars as this sound system took up all the power the building had! Ears were ringing for days after that.

The new Academy is shite.

I hate that new Academy so much.   It's such a terrible design and the bar queues are just ridiculous.  I miss the old one.

I actively avoid the new Academy unless there's something I really, really don't want to  miss.

It's not that bad tbf, there's usually a decent view wherever you end up stood in the room.

Cardiff Arena on the other hand...

Bristol O2 used to be a favourite of mine but since the Council decided they were no longer allowed to let people stand on the stairs, but the capacity didn't decrease, sold out gigs in there are uncomfortably packed to the point where you sometimes piss people off whenever you breathe out slightly!

As someone who goes to gigs alone and makes sure I'm there for all the support acts, it does help to fill the gap between sets

Yep. And they always seem to be whenever the football is on as well.

Come on, people who talk to randoms at gigs are odd.

Been ten years since I left Manchester, most of the names above weren’t there in my time.

You didn't see the Strokes at APE last year, did you?

Yeah the Corn Exchange is terrible, especially compared to the Usher Hall in Edinburgh which is the same size but is a really great venue. There's not really any other decent sized Edinburgh venues but thankfully most acts seem to avoid the Corn Exchange these days.

Edinburgh's live music scene is just dreadful generally.

Not to mention all of the DJ venues like Fabric and Printworks.

Mostly agree, although would drop Ally Pally down to average for its usually middling sound and location. Brixton seems to be very marmite, I love it personally but know a few friends that hate it. Borderline would have made it onto good for me before they refurbed it then closed it down the bastards.

Get the bus from Finsbury Park. Stops right outside.

Or the bus from Wood Green station if Piccadilly line is easier for you.

Pretty much agree.

Personally think O2 is the worst venue in London so it would be lower.

I also used to live 10 minutes from Ally Pally so I’d maybe have it higher, although I understand for most people it’s a ball ache to get to.

Roundhouse and Brixton the GOATs.
