The Strokes has been the biggest 'are they coming/are they not coming' story since I visit festivals. Would be very special if this year is the year.

That's true!

Although I've seen Daft Punk (half a set) at Pukkelpop when I was too young for festivals. Hence the 'half a set' ;-). Strokes is still on the never 'seen before' bucketlist.

I had a chance to see Daft Punk years ago but just assumed I'd see them again on a future tour, little did I know, gutted!

The Strokes did tour dates last summer and the dates seemed to be announced in a fairly straightforward manner like APE in London.

I wonder if Daft Punk will ever tour again. I know its been 12 years by this point and that they've got out of doing the touring thing, plus I'm not sure they've made much new music of late, but I imagine if they ever were to that it would be a huge deal.

Post Malone would be a second gross mistake at headliners after Kings of Leon.

Arcade, RATM, RHCP, even Portishead. Wilco or Sigur Ros, usually undercard material, would be better.

When My Chemical Romance were in their highest moment (2007 after The Black Parade álbum), they played in Madrid in a 30€ festival under Bad Religion and a spanish médium sized band (Los Delinquentes). That's their popularity in Spain.

You've missed the point. The first post said MCR peaked with that 2007 festival under Bad Religion but I was showing they were clearly taking bigger spots in Spain in 2010/11.

Plus, festivals back in the day were not the big deal they are today and bands would be less likely to turn down an offer because they got a sub-head spot rather than a head spot. I also bet there was a generally more chilled vibe about negotiation, not being tour the main source of income of a band in the LP era

If it's just a headline slot behind The Strokes I don't see why it matters what billing they get. Not much different to Prophets of Rage headlining alongside The Cure or Faith No More with Kings of Leon imo.

Nah, I think that if MCR are a thing (and they should be), they would be third-down, IMO the same way Foals are. Not making a comparison between the band because honestly I would not know where to start, but I guess that MC already picked their quota of ambiguous headliners with Billie Eilish and Faith No More.

Which is not to say that they do not deserve the spot, don't get me wrong, but compared to 2018's edition (which IMO should always be the comparison's term for Mad Cool), the right to be there for such names is a little bit more left untold if compared to the like of those headliners.

I swear after the initial burst of excitement that MCR have not really been that active in confirming details about their upcoming reunion. Unless a lot of it waiting until after the premiere show of their reformation in LA later this month?

Rumoured for Coachella so Coachella will be one of the first festivals to announce them then they'll hopefully announce more dates
