I think because very few acts are active at the moment it’s hard to see beyond the pandemic fog. If it’s going to be 2022/2023 before George Ezra returns to live shows / putting music out there’s a good chance he could be relegated to a returning sub. I don’t think he’s the type of act that can take 3/4 years off and come back where he left off.

With all due respect, he already did. Everyone had written him off as yesterday's jam before he locked and loaded on Shotgun.

There was a suggestion recently by some buttrock band that putting out music during lockdown is a zero-sum game because people will be more interested in new music when it's over. I feel like a lot of acts have this in their minds a little bit. So I don't think radio silence in the pandemic times is much of a bad thing.

Besides, yer man is probably in the lab day and night working on the perfect post-COVID agreeable summer clapalong anthem.

He could well be. My feeling though is there going to be headline level anticipation, or will he continue having an audience who will be happy to show up for a sunset pyramid slot, but want to spend their actual night elsewhere? I don’t know whether GE has the right hype around him to get the bump up anymore - especially if he won’t get a shot for a few years time.

He already headlined Latitude, Parklife, Neighbourhood, TRNSMT and Isle of Wight on the last go out. If he can get crowds at those times (mostly day festivals) then he definitely will at Glastonbury. Next time he tours he's doing stadiums I am sure.

The headline level is not Glastonbury headline level, however. I think we could still be in for seeing them sub. Maybe even this year come to think about it. They should have just subbed The Cure like that random shout on Twitter we were obsessed with.

He absolutely is. That last album of his was colossal and unless he comes back with an absolute clunker there’s no reason whatsoever to think the next album won’t be even bigger.

Zero doubt in my mind that he headlines on the next album. He’s on the same trajectory as Sheeran.

My best guess is over the next decade we’ll see...

New headliners:

Taylor, Kendrick, George Ezra, Billie Eilish, The 1975, Dua Lipa, Fleetwood Mac, Lewis Capaldi, Depeche Mode

Returning headliners:

Coldplay, Blur, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, Beyoncé, Macca

(Left Reg out because I just don’t see him ever doing it)

I do wonder about the weeknd doing a headline slot. Most steamed artist of the year I think.

Dua Lipa is surely a dead cert at some point over the next cycle.

Legends slot could be P!NK, or could she be a headliner? She'll have had a 30 year career by 2025.

Billie Eilish I think will fade before she gets a turn to headline.

I'd love to see a chemical brothers set back at the pyramid.

I still think one of the 1D boys could be up for headlining in the not too distant future. Probably Harry, maybe Nile (or both with them being special guests).

Would be good. Not too sure about the 1975 though. I don’t think the festival have given them the call.

Swap them with Arctic Monkeys I reckon.

Well I feel that they want to try to keep the one “young” headliner thing going along with one female and there seems to be enough of each to mix in with a legacy ish name too. So yeah, easily swap in AM in this case.

I’d be all over this. Cor, imagine if that was this year and last year was as planned.

Damn COVID!

Yeah, I mean I think it was about time for DM to finally do it and the timing  wouldve worked out for their album cycle. But we might still get to see that because of everything being pushed so dont give up hope.

1D didn’t headline when they were the biggest act on the planet. Can’t see any of the solo lads ever doing it.

If Pink was ever going to headline it would have been in 2019 when she did Rock Werchter and Glastonbury panic booked The Killers instead.

They had a very different vibe as a boy band to their solo stuff though. There's never been a modern pop group headline right? I'm thinking Little mix, 1D type vibe.

I guess blur and oasis were pop groups of their day but a different vibe.

Different vibe is certainly one way to describe the difference between Blur and Little Mix.

Harry Styles seems to be getting some acclaim, Watermelon Sugar was a jam for sure, but he’s no where near big enough to headline.

Way behind your Ezras and Eddie.

No group but they’ve booked Beyoncé, Adele, Swift and most likely will book Dua Lipa and/or Billie Eilish in the near future so they’re clearly not afraid to book pop acts to headline. I just don’t think they fit the headliner profile. Robbie Williams was in the biggest boy band ever and was also the biggest male solo act around for years, yet neither he nor Take That have ever been booked to headline. Ditto the Spice Girls who are seemingly desperate to play (or at least one or two of them are).

That’s not to say I couldn’t see Harry Styles popping up slightly lower down the bill this year.

I think the Foos would have played in some capacity last year. Not headlining, and I know 2017 was quite recent. They initially intended to release 'Medicine at Midnight' last year and do a huge world tour to coincide with their 25th anniversary as a band (they released this on a letter yesterday).

I think the only artist that has a shot is Justin Timberlake if you even wanted to consider a solo act that came from a boy band from the last 20 years.

Glasto hasnt even dipped into K Pop yet, but its going to be difficult to get the top names cause the audience wont be able to be in attendance for the performance due to how ticket sales are done.

The Pyramid Stage line up is curated to provide a balanced line up to entertain the ticket holders - how popular an act is or isn't globally isn't the only deciding factor. I don't see the likes of BTS figuring into Emily and Nick's plans at all.

Nah you’re right, can’t see the average Pyramid punter being too enamoured.

Well The Killers played Rock Werchter the year before in 2018, and it flopped hugely. One of the few headline shows I ran out off. Still baffled their Glasto show was such a succes.

Honestly 1 of the ways to be a successful headliner on the Pyramid is have songs that everyone knows and can drunkenly sing along too.  They were always onto a winner.

Hasn't the air already started leaking out of Idles big pink balloon?

3 months since I had COVID and I’ve still got very little sense of taste. Sometimes I just find myself settling down on the sofa, opening up Spotify and sticking on Ultra Mono.
