Little Simz not headlining is either a very strong or weird booking depending on the way you look at it...

This new album is going to send her to the stratosphere!

Her name is on the second line of the announcement, which is normally an indicator of either sub-headlining the Woods Stage or headlining the Garden Stage. Many acts opt for the magical and more intimate ambience of the latter. She could work very well there as headliner.

So for post-headliner party acts who are we thinking? Comet is Coming. Romare, and?

Blanck Mass - not exactly a party band but neither really were BEAK>.

FWIW I'd guess Greenwood, Simz and Whitney will be Woods subs and John Grant, Tinariwen and Arab Strap Garden headliners.

I always saw those slots not as party sets but as bands who would benefit from being on late and in a super moody setting. If they happen to be fun all the better, but also some dark and shouty shiz too

A positive update from the festival, I loved the original (2020/21) line ups and think, given the current situation that the new line up is as good as it can be. Lots of acts retained and some great new additions.

It’s difficult to get too excited at the moment given all the other cancellations being announced - the only saving grace is time is on their side more so than most other festivals. You’d think there should be a clearer picture in the next 6-8 weeks and, thinking positively, we can all get a bit more excited about this thing actually happening!

I told my son about the ticket reissue for 20 May, and the line-up changes. He's considering it - like me he's always been supportive of the undercard at EOTR.

Regarding the loss of Bright Eyes though, his comment was, and I quote

"Very glad to hear Bright Eyes has fucked off, though. I don't care how good his music is, I vowed never to listen to him again after the John Peel night "

He's never forgiven Conor for his dissing of John Peel, in the John Peel tent at Glastonbury 2005

😁😁

The deification of John Peel is one of the stranger things to happen in my lifetime. Played some decent music but was wrong about a lot of things too. And a bit of a dick on occasion too. Nobody's above a bit of criticism.

Oberst wasn't exactly delivering considered criticism, though was he?? Highlights included Peel "was a cokehead - that's why I like him; we have a lot in common", and "John Peel is shit, and so is this festival!" The latter, in particular, unlikely to win friends when playing at a festival, inside a tent named after John Peel.

Yeah, but you know, it's hardly a crime is it? Bit daft, but it's hardly like he dug up Peel's corpse and fucked it on stage, is it? The pomposity of music fans who admire Peel for his outspokenness, his refusal to comply and his iconoclasm then crying foul cos someone says that he's shit is a bit daft.

Didn't he himself used to lead the chants of 'John Peel is a c**t' when he was djing etc at the Reading Festival back in the day.

From what I remember about that Bright Eyes set, the reviews were pretty negative even if you completely set aside any Peel related comments. Turning up late, completely fucked up, and pretty much unable to play his own songs. Everyone I knew that was at it had left by about halfway through.

In Connor's defence, he got promoted to headline late notice when Ryan Adams pulled out and overdid it before hand out of nerves which I can empathise with.

I saw them at Glastonbury 2007 and remember cackling when he said "It's great to be here!" *goes quiet, looks down* "....didn't really think I was gonna be asked back tbh"
