Damn, Chris Whitty is good. He answers question in such a good manner. He’s been brilliant in all this.

It’s very much like a war time situation. At the front the NHS and community care services are fighting at the front, doing a heroic job.  In tandem, with less publicity the scientists are looking for the best way to shorten and win the war. A parallel can be drawn with the Bletchley Park codebreakers in WW2 .

and at home the people are busy drinking beer and eating pringles. Well, I am anyway.

God save the queen.

I have a teenage kid...and this whole social distancing thing is really hard for her. I'm quite happy to stay away from all the other bastards but for young people this is when they should be out there doing what young people do (except my daughter who wouldn't be doing any of that of course).

I've not read this thread since my last post. I know that three of you have sent responses to my posts (Toilet Duck, Deaf Nobby Burton - which remains the best user name ever, as far as I'm concerned, and Smeble).

I do not know what your responses are, and I'm sorry, but I'm not going to look at them either. I was more than a little off my head when I've made recent posts on this thread. On top of that, and more importantly, I really don't want to get in to a heated discussion / argument with you. I'm too mentally knackered to do so, but also I realise that I've really not studied this whole thing, so was probably wrong to stick my own oar in, in the first place.

If I truly believe in something then I'll hold my ground. As I can't even fully remember what I wrote myself, that leaves me a little back footed.

On top of that, I just don't want an argument / intellectual jousting session. I've come to the conclusion that I really can't be fucked now with all that stuff.

Good on you mate. I said it earlier but it can’t hurt to say again. I hope you and your family are ok and you can get through this. I can’t imagine what it’s like.

No worries, I’ll only repeat one thing and that’s that I hope you and yours are doing ok. Take care.

I've been watching Chris Whitty's old lectures the last week or so and they are terrific, he may be an advisor to a tory government but I suspect his own politics are quite a bit more left wing. His medical lectures on heart disease, cancer etc are very informing but this presentation in particular really opened my eyes,

it makes sense of a lot of things that have puzzled me for years.

I have a few friends that worked in a certain government department back when he was their Chief Scientist. They confirm that not only is definitely far more left wing than the current government, with an amazing way of explaining very clever things in very simple ways, but he is also a very lovely, friendly and sociable man (i.e. one you would happily get a pint with after work)

I like Chris Whitty, I feel sorry for him knowing that the government will throw him under the bus as soon as they need too.

Don’t do that to me 😂 I want to give him a cuddle.

Channel 4 has an interesting show for those interested

Answer to every question - we don't know yet, they confirmed yet again that a vaccine is a long way off and also that the virus could disappear on it's own after a while. By the time a vaccine is ready for the public the virus could be gone!

The article I quoted the other day,

"The first step is to immunise healthy people between the age of 18-55, after which they will seek to vaccinate older people, who Gilbert claims “are the people we need to protect with this vaccine”."

was clearly (now i've seen this program) talking about trials on volunteers not vaccinating the public.

Bottom line is it's too soon to have any real idea about this virus, they still don't know how contagious it is, how deadly it is or if any existing drugs have significant effects on it. Also none of the scientists have mentioned the possibility of vitamin D deficiency affecting BAME patients, it's something John Campbell has discussed several times on his blog. Why not tell black & asian people to take vitamin D to boost their immune systems? If it's not a factor no harm done, if it turns out to be important it could save a few people.

Don’t get arsey just because people don’t fall in line and accept everything you say as gospel. At no point did I suggest doctors are saints. Are you now saying it’s the doctors who are lying not the government? That was my point in my original post, who is lying in your opinion? The doctors filling out the forms? Or the government in compiling the data? Anyone can look at the guidelines given out by the government to doctors on how to report covid 19. Your post seemed to blame the government but you are now saying it’s the doctors.Which is it?

yes some hospitals are quicker at reporting deaths than others, that just a given, and anyone who thinks different doesn’t live in the real world. In the middle of a pandemic paperwork tends to take a back seat and take second fiddle to keeping people alive. In a perfect world the NHS wouldn’t be a postcode lottery but it is, unless you are going to throw stupid money at it, which no government ever has done, it’s never going to be the perfect utopia some people seem to expect.

as for you doctor friend who wanted a patient to die so he could go to a rave I’d suggest you need to take a look at yourself and ask why you are friends with such a person. Need to pick your friends a bit better.

Your post above has been pointed out to me. I have also been informed not to worry because you are evidently a twat.

Make of that what you will.
