The argument I’m making is that we are making these steps too early and making it too easy for things to get bad again. If you read my post I’m not protesting more businesses being open but complying with social distancing, I’m concerned about this stupid guidelines that people can go back to normal but remain 2m apart. It’s fucking stupid. Anyone who doesn’t consider themselves vulnerable or frankly care if they are endangering others will just stop giving a shit.

Well you have to ignore the case numbers now to an extent anyway, the massive increase in testing will result in more cases, but relatively speaking they will be way down from the real peak. These are all relatively small changes and we all know now that the biggest risk is enclosed long term contact, such as in pubs and within care home and family settings. Picnics and extra exercise are very very low risk.

With the way the front pages of the redtops have presented it today, why would anyone wait till Monday with a sunny 3 day weekend ahead?

"Ah cmon Boris is gonna lift the lockdown on Sunday anyway!"

Irresponsible, man.

The majority of those papers have covered themselves in shame throughout the pandemic. A leopard doesn't change its spots. Some of those front pages have been nothing short of disgusting.

I think if people don’t care already I’m not sure relaxing the restrictions slightly will make so much difference ... it’s likely to be those very same people

Same papers that waited a month to throw Ferguson under the bus, coincidentally when the headlines should have been about us having the worst death rate in Europe.

Still, that Boris, eh?  He'll let us out for VE day.

c**ts, the fucking lot of them.

🤣 what? Now we have to ignore the case numbers? Flip me.

Yeah we’ll just continue to ignore case numbers of this virus that has shut down the world and killed 30k people in this country alone. If we can all ignore the numbers then why do the government keep on releasing them.

I was explaining to Matt the case numbers we are seeing now, relatively speaking, will be way down on the peak, so for him not to get too hung up on the actual number.

It would be natural for someone to be concerned about lockdown being eased when case numbers don’t look like they’re falling, I was just pointing out that they in fact are/have fallen.

maybe because of Boris' blabbing and press leaks about easing of lockdown then more people will be out more tomorrow and saturday which will be all over the sunday papers and will spook govt and they will hold back on easing too many restrictions. Most people still support a lockdown and if numbers go up again would look very bad.

Told my flatmate he needs to stop having his friends over because it's putting me at risk and breaking the lockdown. Ignores me, keeps having his friends over. It's almost everyday and they stay in the communal areas.

Told the block manager about it and she was understanding. She emailed all the residents advising them that other people should not be entering the flats while lockdown is in place. She also called him personally to tell him to stop.

But did he stop? Nope, instead he's now just waiting til it's late to bring his friends round. Heard them all whispering as they came in at 2am, no doubt thinking I was asleep. Wrong! 🙄

This isn't curtain twitching territory, they're putting your health directly in danger. Twats.

Yep they've come to the conclusion the darker you are the worse it is, they then list a whole load of social factors but leave out the most obvious possibility for why this is. John Campbell has been talking about this for weeks.

People with low levels of vitamin D are more at risk, staying inside and avoiding the sun makes things worse, the darker you are the harder it is to make vitamin D naturally, It's easy and cheap to take Vitamin D supplements the government should have recommended this weeks ago.

It's a good idea to supplement vitamin D, especially if you don't get out much and if you have darker skin - but he does seem to have something of a bee in his bonnet about vitamin D. He's a good communicator and educator, but I'm not sure if it's quite as important as he seems to be making it out to be.

To be clear, I'm convinced enough to take 3000IU daily, but I'm not convinced as the good doctor on the strength of the evidence.

Me too, and it's not just him saying it, even if the effect is not as great as he believes and there are other factors at play it still makes sense to take it.

It's also official NHS advice,

People at risk of vitamin D deficiency

Some people will not get enough vitamin D from sunlight because they have very little or no sunshine exposure.

The Department of Health and Social Care recommends that you take a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D throughout the year if you:

  • are not often outdoors – for example, if you're frail or housebound
  • are in an institution like a care home
  • usually wear clothes that cover up most of your skin when outdoors

If you have dark skin – for example you have an African, African-Caribbean or south Asian background – you may also not get enough vitamin D from sunlight.

You should consider taking a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D throughout the year.

Is there any chance your flatmate's friends aren't complete dicks like him and if you tell them you're at risk they'll stop coming round?

Bit of a long shot, it's more likely they are complete dicks but maybe your flatmate hasn't told them so they don't realise they're putting you in danger.
