Well, I dont like the guy but I dont have a massive problem with the prime minister being tested as quickly as possible.

sorry, but the whole purpose of cabinet govt is that no one is irreplaceable.

Meanwhile, right now, there are people who are irreplaceable - doctors and nurses - and I'd say they're way more important for testing.

I wonder what the the wealthier countries of the world will do when this thing starts ravaging through Africa.

It probably depends how well they're coping in their own countries.  I expect China will have a massive presence in Africa, as they currently have capacity to assist and the continent has been a strategic interest for them for some time.

America is unlikely to be much help. I'm not sure about the rest of the world.

100% this. People are working on the front line and have no access to a test yet Prince Charles and Boris manage to get a test as easily as that. It's all bollocks.

Like it or not, boris is head of the country in political terms. They'd always get better medical care than others for a reason!

Charles getting one is bollocks, but the Prime Minister?  I mean, he's the Prime Minister. Doesn't matter whether someone else in the cabinet could replace him, we could take out half the cabinet for a week if not careful.  It's not as if there are as many senior politicians as doctors+nurses in the country.

I'm not a fan of Boris by any means, but come on, of course he should be getting tested.  He's leading the effort to fight the virus.

Agree with the above sentiment. Absolutely no issue with Boris being tested and diagnosed within 24 hours.

Will be interesting to see if they take any extra steps for his next press conference. They were already keeping the 2m distance and being interviewed via video conference in the one I watched the other day.

Doesn't wash with me as much, he can work from home if he has symptoms. The doctors and nurses can't. They risk their lives every day, the least the government can do is to give them a bloody test to see if they have it and are spreading it by being at work.

Yet they seem to be choosing to test people who do not need to be face to face with people.

Let me be clear though this applies to anyone in government who would be in that scenario not just Boris.

He should just self isolate on the off chance?

It's probably important to know if the PRIME MINISTER  has Covid19 for several reasons. The amount of medical care he would need, the succession plan if things go badly, whether he is now immune going forward...

Oh come on we can't seriously be saying he is more of a priority here are we? He had mild symptoms anyway.

Test the people who need it on the front line and then test people like Boris, I don't think that's unreasonable.

The world is going nuts.

it would be highly irresponsible to not give him a test, surely?

as a general idea I agree with this - but surely the same has to apply to medical professionals too?

If there's not enough tests to do everyone then testing needs to be prioritised - and I think it's more irresponsible to test a politician than a front line medic.

Probably worded much better than me.

it was announced a few days ago that Raab would take over if Spaffer is out of action, and while I hate the idea of Raab in charge more than I do Johnson, it does at least show those sorts of bases are already covered.

And without turning this into a (lack of) ability contest, there's nothing that Johnson could do that Raab couldn't.

Politicians yes, but I think someone coordinating the fight against the virus like boris is (whether you thinks hes doing a good job or not) is higher than any normal politician (leader being higher up than a politician). Any succession plan needs prep and catch up, and youd need an accurate indication of boriss condition to determine when to start that process or not.

I agree with you in principle, but in terms of setting an example to the public who have been asked to lock themselves in their homes, I don’t think it would be great for the PM delivering these messages to be in turn going round unwittingly spreading the virus everywhere.

setting an example to the public would be doing the same as the public is asked to do if they have symptoms. ;)
