Do you know how to become a poet?

stand naked in front of a fire and wait until your Rabbie Burns

A man walks into the library and at the enquiry desk says, 'Robert Burns, the complete works.' The librarian looks up and says, 'I am sorry Mr Burns, the massage parlour is back outside and two doors up from  this one.

i signed myself up for some medical research this morning, that i hope might eventually get my paralysed arm and hand working properly again.

might take a while before things get that good, but its a bit of hope where i had no hope.

It's good to hear that you have hope for a recovery. It's the research that drives improvement forward.

yeah, you're right, i know the doctor doing this research, he's also a senior physiotherapy lecturer at uwe who does a lot with stroke survivors, so he knows his stuff. 🙂

hes also setup a system where i can get free sports massages from his students (i  have one booked for tomorrow),

he's a great guy for people like me 🙂

Try to get the more senior students - you don't want them beating the shit out of you!

Nice - though you're probably getting a better calibre of student than from the average massage course by the sounds of it too.  Sometimes you get more than you bargained for with a cheap massage

Does the massage form part of the study or is there more to it ?

the study is on my arm, the massage tomorrow my leg, there might be some massage as part of the research, but the only link is that they're both to do with the same guy at uwe, the senior physiotherapy  lecturer.

they're physiotherapy students, where the course includes sports massage, im not sure how many people they get to treat before i'm outside their workroom.

My first ever massage was carried out by a prisoner in Chiang Mai Women's prison. We went there because it was recommended. The idea was to teach the women a trade that didn't involve crime. I had never had a massage before so was apprehensive about one anyway (because of 'those' type of connections one may make when mentioning the word 'massage') but nearly jumped out of my skin when the notion was first muted to me. I was travelling with two of my well travelled mates - they were boyfriend and boyfriend then, but are now married. That knowledge helped me in that I knew 100% it wasn't going to lead me to anything 'dodgy'.

I wished I'd known what I now know though. We had the massage, and also paid a generous tip to the ladies. I didn't know it then but know now that these tips will most likely be taken off them from the guards. If I ever went back, I'd be sure to make sure a tip got to the person, and then given them an additional 'sacrificial' tip that they could then give to the guards.

Happy Burns Day

remember it’s the day to cock up your beaver and other innuendos

for those not immersed in scottish literature this was one of his songs written in 1792 . A beaver is a fur hat, what else? At school this was always the go to page in the book of burns poems.

Gideon Coe has just played 'Cock up your beaver' by Camera Obscura on his 6 music show - bloody marvellous!

That's good news indeed Neil, big relief no doubt

It's good news cos it means I'm able to do Glastonbury this year. The question now is whether I want to do it. There's all sorts of good reasons why it might be better to skip it.

Nope every year there's been a festival since 1986.

I thought that kind of situation may be the case. Is it possible that you could attend, and have the party come to you, more than you go to it? I only mention it because I once spent a Glastonbury with my wife, almost solely at the camp site. I can see why some would consider that a waste / possibly a squandering of two tickets, even. However, it was a truly amazing time. Just thought maybe you could replicate such a scenario.

everything about going is difficult. can't trust my campervan to not break down, sleeping is difficult for me because i can't lie down, the wife dislikes doing the things for me i need help with(i dislike her having to do that).

I hope you can find a way that works for you both.
