The lads queuing outside the Glasgow Apollo for a Motorhead  gig in the 70s. We are all mostly pensioners now!😊😉, well those of us who have survived decades of gigs and festivals.

That's a good call then you've just got that last little stint to do!

I think we will drop off the little one at nursery Tuesday morning,  load up the van and go get him at lunch then start making our way down.

5-6pm arrival would be ideal so at least we're somewhat decently placed

See you on the M6, after we’ve done the M8 and M74.  And don’t forget the A39 and A361 to Pilton😉😊

Just 3 to 3.5 hours, thankfully.

It's strange just how enjoyable that journey is though... And the journey back, all along the motorways, at every service, it's like a shared sense of euphoria, a shared understanding of what we've all just experienced. Sounds weird, but I love the journey home as much as the journey there.

The services on the way back always make me laugh, a clear divide between those running for fruit and those running for a burger king, but all have the wristband and the glastonbury layer of festival truth on their skin.

When are you planning on heading down?

The services are always great. Loads of festival goers. Sedgemoor on the way down is jam packed with excited festival goers.

On the way back the sight to see folk getting their first hand wash for five days with hot running water instead of sanitiser or cold water is one to behold! I know exactly what you mean about that shared sense of euphoria!
from the moment we leave your house we are in full festival mode. The anticipation is building! 😉😊

Usually on the Tuesday. Not in a van this year, I still want to get in that queue early, so might try and find a cheap local room for a few hours kip. But haven't actually made any plans yet.

I'm definitely in the burger category!

They journey there is lovely! As are the services encounters... but I feel you're still wearing your tinted glasses on the journey home... all I see at Fleet services on Monday is the smelly walking dead! 😲

Our motorhome is quite well equipped so I do not need to be part of the great unwashed ( unless I choose so) plus a good sausage egg and bacon fry up is always nice without having to leave base camp

Will you be one of the overnight queue people or make your way there early hours?

Maybe, I'm set, mentally, for weeks / months after glastonbury. Everything is easier for a while and the world in general seems like a much better place, so you could well be right. 🙈🤣

Bring on the smelly walking dead.

That's the plan, though not too early. I want to get to the area on the Tuesday afternoon, get to sleep early-ish, whether that's a hotel room, or in the car, and get to the queue for around 3-4am.

I think that's one of the things I like about CV. Coming in from another gate and seeing everyone just pour in and the excitement that they bring.

I have been looking for a good time lapse of everywhere filling up, it's fascinating.

Fair play that is some dedication, 4 or 5 hours of queuing and basically just waiting till 8am

Yeh I'm hoping I get a spot with some good atmosphere. I'll have slept so I'll be ready to go! 😉

I did Love Fields in a campervan last couple of years, on opening morning they 'force' you around the massive main gate C queue, basically queue jumping. As a theme park enthusiast, I definitely wasn't comfortable with that. So last year we stayed back at camp and had breakfast and a few tinnies before heading down to the gate at around 11 / 12. Didn't work, queue was still massive, and we were still ushered around the right hand side of it, straight to the gate. But yes, the atmosphere near the gates on Wednesday is electric.

The thing I like about the campervan fields and arriving early is the Tuesday night on the hill, great atmosphere full of hope and excitement. Watching people's faces for any first timers getting their first glance of the festival site at night.

Man, I can't wait now!!!! 141 days!

Many times in the 90’s stumbling into services post festival, face still half painted, barefoot and stinky, suddenly feeling like Hunter S Thompson in “Fear and Loathing”

The amount of folk fast asleep in cars on the Monday in the Michaelwood services just up the M5 is unreal. Then actually going into the services you feel like you’ve just walked into a zombie movie😊
