Unfortunately I'll not see you there, as I'll not be going there. In fact, it looks like I have wasted everyone's time on this thread. I do apologise for that.
The situation is that it's proving to be too difficult to organize and get off the ground a festival celebration. Too many people have already booked up festivals for next year etc. On top of that there's another one of my mate's 60th birthdays this year too, and he's having a big bash in Spain (where he now lives) in April.
And then on top of that again there is the steam roller of a surprise weekend that my wife is sorting. She , quite rightly, pointed out that I have friends who just aren't up for festivals. To stand a chance of getting as many people as possible to attend 'an' event means that I'm dropping the festival element and going to run with what my wife's arranging.
Both of them to various extents but hard to figure out how much it'd have been wet vs just keeping dust down.
2020: Hot Wed-Fri and then cool (18°) and light rain pretty much all of Saturday and Sunday.
2021: Rain Tuesday, Thurs, Fri early and all Sunday.
On paper 2021 looks worse but I definitely remember rain on the 2020 broadcast and the pilton forcefield might have held out against some of the weather .
I agree Bestival 2011 had an impact for putting The Cure back on the UK Festival map, but for me it was the worst time I have seen the band. They were still comfortably the best act at Bestival but it was an odd performance with a one-off lineup. Maybe a personal preference but the band have sounded a million times better with Reeves Gabrels, and he was missing at Bestival 11. It took 2-3 years for him to bed-in but IMHO the band sounded much better at Reading 2012 and have only got better since then. I've always found the Bestival CD a little harsh and rough.
I think what it shows is that people had severely underrated The Cure as a live force. Prehaps this was justified 1995-2004, but it feels like their stock has been steadily increasing since 2005 with many shifts in momentum. I know Neil on here was particularly down on them a few years back.
Would love a coupler of smaller outdoor events.
Pierce Hall, Scarborough, and smaller ilk.
But probably right, one or two larger scale shows in 2/3 countries is the most likely.
