So when will Trump declare victory?

Probably as soon as (if) he wins Georgia or NC as they will likely be the first two swings to announce.

Actually seems a bit f**ked up that results can be announced before other states close.

Apart from being ridiculed worldwide for how he acted probably not as bad as we think. He'd probably be unstoppable if he was humble, actually told the truth and focused on what he actually did get right instead of resorting to childish insults and bigotry/racism. He knows most of his base are too stupid to doubt anything he says though, any faults he has simply aren't true and just part of a 'deep state' plot against him.

I guess the fear for the world this time is tarrifs and trade wars f**king the global economy, repercussions for Ukraine in any deal with Russia, what it means for NATO (in the end will probably mean european countries need to start contributing more), and who knows for Israel/Palestine...he is definitely more of a friend of Israel than Harris but will he try and sort out an a deal  with Saudi Arabia involved?

Maybe it won't be so bad.

Infact. VOTE TRUMP!

(on 3rd beer).

Covid was his major downfall in his last term. Before then there was obviously a lot of racist rhetoric and he was largely seen as a bumbling idiot, but he really bungled the Covid response by downplaying it and then everything after, and it most likely cost him the election.

This time though is totally different - this is Trump on a war path and with nothing to lose. It would be 10x worse, especially with some of the ridiculous and downright frightening stuff he’s been proposing. Guy would sell America to the dogs to get his final piece of the pie.

Also loading SCOTUS with Trump choices which would have consequences for like 30+ years.

For US it's a different matter, especially for women, especially for migrants. Not sure about their economy, if he does put in place tarrifs that will likely work well for some parts of the economy, and really badly for other parts.

Maybe he'll do f**k all, just play some golf and the odd live event thing with his maga people.

Come on now, let’s not go so deep that we’re watching and reporting on each states weather conditions 😅

I've purposefully got out of this thread for a few weeks and I see such micro-analysis has not changed in my absence.

Only just saw that you said for the rest of the world! Yeah, we’re probably not personally gonna feel any direct consequences realistically, but the world is still much better off without him at the helm.

actually I think we will...economics and security wise especially here in europe.

Looks like this is gonna be a record turnout election and then some, which usually favours Dems. Apparently Philadelphia has already reached 530,000 voters by 11.30am and their total was 760,000 in 2020.

I mean, pfft - who knows which way this is about to swing? Personally I would be surprised if a definitive result is declared by when I'm likely to wake up around 7am tomorrow morning.

All depends on who wins which states. If the right states go to one candidate, or if it looks like it’s headed that way and networks call it, it could all be over early-ish. Remember 2016 being over by the time I woke up in the morning.

Long as nobody gets wasabi and lemon flavoured sparkling water in their eye in the newsroom.

I'm not planning to stay up late tonight but I'm almost curious to wonder how busy this place will get, particularly from midnight when I gather the results are going to start to really pick up.

Even if, again, with the margins this skinny, I would be surprised to wake up tomorrow morning and get a result confirmed. It's possible, but given how long Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia and Nevada took to ratify everything last time, and those 5 likely having a key part to play again, I can't say I'm expecting it.

Hell, I'm already wary if the precedent that might well get followed is the shitshow that Florida made of its 2000 recount.
