The left blame the centre, the centre blame the left, those around Biden & Harris blame the other, some are blaming the party losing touch with this demographic, that demographic, blahblablah. When the scale of what happened is what it was, I don't think one reason is enough to cut it. There were just too many problems. My problem is that I try to think like a reasonable person and see the good in people, when actually I need to realise that everybody has brain rot now and think voting for a guy because he’s funny and orange is a good thing. Will adjust accordingly come the next election.

To be fair it was a lot worse than I thought it would be...I genuinely thought it would be close but that Harris might actually pull it off after that Selzer poll and what some commentators were saying. FloopFiller
Think I downplayed this just a couple of days ago, but one big problem the Dems have that seems to have swung the pendulum massively over the last few years is that the right have currently dominated the male podcast and influencer-sphere, with the likes of Rogan, Tate, Shapiro, Carlson etc all having huge viewership, and the left have got pretty much nothing on nearly the same scale to counter it, because a bunch of guys telling guys that they’re awesome and superior and basically everything they want to hear is far more appealing than some guy telling them times are tough and a slice of reality. Whatever progress was made to move millennials to the left has been completely obliterated with gen z, and that’s a real issue. So many young guys have just gone full misogynist, racist, and red pilled.

While the MAGA types will get the most exposure, there will be many who think Trumps a bit of a d*ck, but will make the economy better. That’s a perfectly rationale view, even if I would have voted differently. It's not like people on the right are full of love, compassion and respect for left wingers. Then the contest is on to be the next candidate. His populism needs a character like his to enthuse people. I'm not sure there is a natural successor. maybe both sides could campaign on issues? and by that I mean those that impact everyone, crazy idea over there I know

steviewevie
Have heard a few people say that Biden could have ran in 2016 but was blocked by Obama to allow Clinton to run...and Biden would have won cause they like him in the rust belt etc and we wouldn't have ever had a Trump president. So, it's all Obama's fault.

Seems to be a lot of finger pointing going on which is understandable, but ultimately it’s probably a mix of a lot of things, and also the unfortunate reality that there’s been a big rightwards shift in the world that really needs to be addressed, and Trump just being such a larger than life character who made politics ‘fun’ for a lot of people. lost
Its all ifs and buts. Seem to remember Biden was rushed through in 2020 to block Bernie Sanders. Sanders had been on Joe Rogan and got his backing and then the dem's panicked and every candidate dropped out backing Biden. It didn't feel like Biden was hughly popular and was on course to lose before covid.
steviewevie
Would have been nice for Bernie Sanders to have a go...and you never know...but he called himself a socialist, would US really voted for him to be president?
steviewevie
I wonder if AOC will have a go in 2028? She'll be old enough, is very charismatic, a great speaker and streetwise and hugely popular amongst a certain part of the electorate...but would probably get trounced nationally. I kept hearing people complaining that Harris was a communist. Still, she might have a go.
