U.S. Presidential Election

The Bulwark are speculating that this non-existent “Department of Government Efficiency”, which will actually NOT be a governmental department, is something Trump’s team have come up with to essentially ditch Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, and keep them out of government and away from the Oval Office because a) they’re too weird; and b) Trump disliked the idea that Musk might threaten his messianic persona and take too much credit.

No one has been more vocal in their criticism of Trump than the brilliant Sam Harris. I don't always agree with him, but he absolutely nails what went wrong for the Democrats here...

To my ears, he’s also making very reasoned, nuanced comments on transgenderism and it’s relationship to politics and rationale more widely.

What do you think about his comments on this?

On the transgender issue?

I think I agree with him. Trans activism has completely derailed liberal politics. Huge numbers of people are running as fast as they can in the opposite direction. Most people want nothing to do with it.

It certainly had a massive impact on the result of this election.

Not watched the video so apologies if I’m just repeating anything that’s been said, but the Harris campaign barely addressed anything to do with trans issues. In fact, I’d argue republicans have successfully weaponised it against democrats by constantly bringing it up and claiming insane stuff like Harris/whoever is allowing trans surgeries on children in schools etc and forcing democrats to retort, therefor making it seem like it’s one of their major talking points.

I know at least one guy (who was up against Ted Cruz) had to make an ad refuting Cruz’ claim that they were gonna allow boys in to girls bathrooms at school etc.

Sam Harris is wrong.

He says: One lesson I would be quick to draw from this election is that Americans aren't really into seeing biological men punch women in the face at the Olympics and if that sounds like transphobia to you, you're the problem.

Americans may not be into it, but they did not actually see that. If this has become a significant factor in this election it is because of the significant misinformation peddled by Trump and in this case Sam Harris. But I don't think it has been significant, compared to the economy and immigration. And indeed, what significance can Olympic boxing in France really have on US elections anyway?

And calling a woman a 'biological man' may not actually qualify as 'transphobia' but it is vile and the campaign of hate that it is a part of has real-world negative impacts. Sam Harris is part of the problem.

The trouble is someone like that may increase the vote in liberal areas they win anyway,  but would be toxic in the swing states.

she'd be all the same reasons to lose (except black) as harris
