Whichever way this plays out now (Trump gets booted out/arrested; Trump stays on as president; Trump walks away a free man), it's batshit crazy. But I guess this has always been headed that way.

Weirdly, I cant help think that him walking away a free man seems the most likely.

going to be difficult with plenty of state charges mounting. he'll have to go to a country that has no extradition and never come back here. the federal pardon is going to be very difficult right now as i mentioned a couple days ago now as a scenario. If Pence is given power via the 25th, there ( especially now ) is no guarantee that he will actually go through with it and hand out the pardon. so its a big roll of the dice to take. he has zero trust in pence now and cant turn to anyone else to get a pardon, thats the ballgame.

btw, if anyone wants to keep tabs on the discussions in the chambers, cspan has their youtube channel streaming live. im sure the news networks are tired already of sitting and talking about this stuff and hope its over in a few hours.

so...ok what happened? They've got rid of the protesters/terrorists and carried on? And this 25th amendment thing is when president is unfit for office and vice president takes over? Was there any more trouble over night in DC?

(I guess I could just look at the news).

You think you'd know all this, what with you being from America

theyre back in session and are mostly through the states votes. there have been objections as they had forseen but did not have what was needed to proceed except for pennsylvania which is ending in a bit. wisconsin is the last state that should have an objection brought onto it and we'll see if it has merit or not. if it does then youre gonna wait another 3 hours til this ends. dc seems mostly calm but the discussion now is how the police have let maga people just hang out around the city and not face consequences compared to blm protests which essentially had them being hunted by police.

If Pence did take over then I can’t imagine him being too willing to pardon in light of Trump selling him out to his rabid (and armed) fan base.

Surely most Americans won't like what they've seen and not support Trump from now on?

surely the small crowd yesterday shows that his madman support isn't actually that big anyway?

I've always thought the moment Trump left office (if not sooner) Republicans (as a party) will do their best to marginalise Trump. No political party wants their leader to be someone they can't control.

I'm pretty sure that the Trump effect will fade away to almost nothing very quickly once he's out of the white house. There'll still be some Trump nutters of course but they'll be the shouty weirdos that almost everyone ignores.
