I actually think, (and this is probably a provocative thing to say even though it was me that predicted them)… but I think SHM might be a bit too big for Glastonbury. In the sense that they are guaranteed to get one of the biggest crowds of the weekend at any festival they play.

I’d call them the biggest dance act in the world… by stealth. Not many people will talk about them but they have huge crowd pulling power.

It’s hard to explain in words. But if they were on a poster a lot of people would probably say “ah cool” and not make much of a song and dance about it. However on the night they would steal a huge amount of attendees from other stages. In the same way that Calvin Harris would be one of the biggest artists of the weekend if Glasto booked him, despite not many people making a song and dance about the announcement.

The only dance act that would get more than them is a Daft Punk reunion or if they stuck Chemical Brothers against someone weaker than The Killers. So to sum it up, I definitely agree.

I don’t quite agree with all this - except of course they are undoubtedly very big. But mainly I think if they were available and interested then Glastonbury would book them. And it would be a good party for sure.

I think they could be booked if there was interest from them to do it. To hear that they felt honoured for Glastonbury to show their movie is probably a positive sign.

The only slot that would work for them is Other headline. I just think they’d comfortably be one of the biggest dance acts Glastonbury has booked. The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers are big in a different way - but it would be a pretty big venture into the EDM scene by booking the biggest one going.

So sorry but could someone let me know why Macca is now doubtful, or out of the question?

Just silence on his front really. The Werchter boutique rumour turned out to be a Springsteen gig. So really there is nothing pointing to Macca being in the frame other than Neil’s info.

Oh I certainly agree that they would be one of the biggest dance acts Glastonbury had ever booked. It was the idea that they’re ‘too big’ - as in a disruptive rather than positive sense - that was the thing I’m not sure about.

That first bit actually makes it sound fairly possible. Tour dates are free and they aren't at Creamfields either although it would be their first date of the year.

If Sam Smith or George Ezra didn't headline after two albums why would Sam Fender, unless I'm massively missing something? I like Sam Fender, seems decent, but shit me.

I get what you are saying, but number of albums doesn't really seem to be a determining factor.  Billie Eilish only has 2 albums, so he is at least as qualified as she is on that front.  Stormzy only had one album I think?

In comparison to Sam Smith and George Ezra, I believe Sam Fender would be way better suited to a headline slot than either of them.  I mean they are both dull as f**k, whereas I reckon Sam Fender would really go off on the Pyramid.  I'm not saying it is the right time for him to do it, but he could easily pull it off.  Would definitely be more exciting by some margin than booking Flo again

Totally agree and thanks for your response. It wasn't so much amount of albums I was getting at, more so what level Smith and Ezra were at by their second albums compared to Fender. Maybe Fender is way ahead of what they were and I'm just out of touch.

Ta Matt.

Praying Neil's info is correct at this point!

Nah, you are not out of touch at all - I doubt that Sam Fender is ahead of the other two on various metrics such as mainstream radio play, popularity with Mums, etc etc, but are those really the things that make a good Pyramid headliner?  I just reckon Sam Fender would be way out ahead of the other two in terms going down a storm headlining the Pyramid.

Probably needs a bigger debate about what actually makes a good Pyramid headliner

Is that Springsteen gig still going ahead? I thought he was out for 2022

I do think it's about time an electronic act headlined the Pyramid again. Would rather see SHM than a repeat headliner

From a good source that the final two are McCartney and Kendrick.

Keep in mind he said this many many months ago, people are starting to doubt its legitimacy since there has been nothing from McCartney or Kendrick this year. Kendrick might be waiting until after the Superbowl though

Tbh it may well have been the plan many many months ago but at some point along the line booking negotiations, logistics and covid have caused it to be changed.

Is there anywhere to keep track of current rumors in one handy list while the main site is awol guys?

Dental has done this list for potential headliners.

Gonna do a RAG recap of who has dates announced to establish that the two (who Neil would mark as a TBC if he still could) not having tour dates yet is no big deal because of how few names are actually on the map so far.

  • Adele (BST exclusive)
  • Arctic Monkeys (R+L)
  • Biffy Clyro (Download)
  • Bruce Springsteen (no dates yet but leaks; rumoured date for Belgium on Sunday - b2b very unlikely)
  • Coldplay (ruled themselves out)
  • Dave (R+L)
  • Dua Lipa (in Norway Sunday)
  • Eagles (in Dublin Friday, London Sunday - 3 days in a row very unlikely)
  • Ed Sheeran (in London Friday, Saturday)
  • Elton John (in London Friday, Bristol Sunday - 3 days in a row very unlikely)
  • Florence and the Machine
  • Foo Fighters (in Manchester Saturday)
  • Gorillaz (Germany Friday, Luxembourg Sunday)
  • Green Day (in UK Friday, Saturday; Dublin Monday - 4 days in a row very unlikely)
  • Guns N' Roses (in France Saturday, b2b dates in different countries very unlikely)
  • Imagine Dragons (UK exclusive show in Milton Keynes)
  • Iron Maiden (Download)
  • The Killers (too soon)
  • Kings of Leon (in Dublin Friday, Belfast Sunday)
  • Liam Gallagher (in Belfast Friday, Glasgow Sunday)
  • Metallica (in Germany Friday, France Sunday)
  • Muse (headlining IOW; in Spain Sunday)
  • Pearl Jam (in Italy Saturday)
  • Rage Against the Machine (R+L)
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers (in London Saturday and Sunday)
  • Royal Blood
  • Stormzy (too soon)
  • The Strokes

I believe that's pretty much it. Given that the green names would all cause fierce arguments on whether they could headline, I think it's easy to expect that more names are forthcoming despite many festivals having announced their lot.
