The only way you'll get me there is if you give me a pair of noise cancelling headphones & a dozen rotten eggs to chuck at them! 😄

Even that wouldn't be enough i wouldn't watch them if they were in my garden and you gave me free beer and pizza as you say tax dodging c**ts.  Can't think of many people I despise more than Barlow

I reckon if the Gallagher brothers got together again then we would have some fantastic music to listen to..

Apart from that they are pricks....

Some NGHFB tracks would have been much better with Liam doing vocals. I Wanna Live In A Dream (In My Record Machine) springs to mind.

Who Built The Moon is the best record released by Oasis or any act affiliated with them since The Masterplan.

I was a huge rock fan, but had got a bit bored of the genre. Most of the new rock I like has a female singer. There is probably a bit of a novelty to having a female sing rock that is refreshing, but I also think it's mainly female bands that are bringing new things to the genre just now.

Though I don't think I'm the targeted audience of this meme. The Who are one of my favourite bands and I don't tend to slag of old white men. I'm all for more inclusive line ups at festivals, though I was worried more women might mean more pop (which is probably a controversial opinion on here, but it's where most mainstream female acts are and I don't think it's what a music festival should be about). Ironically having said that my favourite set at the last festival, and possibly my favourite set in all the time I've been going to the festival was Lizzo.

I'm sat at my makeshift desk listening to The Libertines' Anthems For Doomed Youth...

Not only was it far, far better than it had any right to be. I would also posit that it's as good as Up The Bracket.

I was thinking about this album a couple of days ago. Seems crazy that for a period in the late 00’s the idea of The Libertines reforming/recording new music was the gold standard in British music for a lot of people, and then it happened, was actually pretty good, and they just... fell off and started being booked to headline hilariously shit festivals.

Suppose the whole indie and guitar scene falling on its arse entirely in favour of other genres has something to do with it, but their instant drop off after doing exactly what many had been hoping for for a decade was pretty baffling/amusing to see.

It's not that surprising. People wanted to see the band who they 'never got a chance to see' reunite. They did, and moved on.

The whole allure of Pete Doherty and The Libertines in general was that he was a dying breed of rock star; drug problems, band fights, dating supermodels, etc. They were much bigger after they split than prior - Babyshambles sold out arenas!

So it figures that this band people listened to wishing they'd get back together started off with huge reunion shows and then it petered out into academies and rinky-dink festivals when there was no longer any mystery, just some road-worn guys playing through old songs.

I can't say I think there was any real clamour for another album from them even when they were broken up. People just wanted to hear the old songs live. I don't think I ever pined for a Libertines album 3 as a teenage fan listening to Up the Bracket on the regular. I can't say that I agree Anthems... was any good either, sounded no better than any other project Pete or Carl had on the go, but either way it was gonna be dead on arrival.

Would it be wrong to suggest that The Libertines were just a bit shit?

It's probably reasonable enough a suggestion to say that the reception to their music was inflated because they were this freewheeling, rambunctious band and the epitome of cool to a generation.

If you're saying they dropped off because people 'realised' they were shit all along, I don't think so. Like, where do you think the fans turned to? Mozart? Stevie Wonder? Or was it Liam Gallagher's solo albums?

Libs probably just wanted to milk it for all it was worth and cash in.

There was never going to be any longevity to their return.

Pocket the cash and then go and eat a belly buster breakfast.

Pete prefers his cheese toasties these days apparently.
