They really are. I often see them being touted alongside Arctic Monkeys and the Strokes as being the holy trinity of noughties indie. But they're so damn boring compared to the other two. Absolutely no catchy or memorable songs

I’d have to agree. On merit, ranking:

Arctic Monkeys 9/10

The Strokes 8/10

The Libertines 4/10...and I’m being generous.

I used to know a girl, and one time she travelled all the way up to Glasgow to see the Libertines. I can't remember where she was living at the time coz it was before I met her... Either in Sheffield or near Birmingham? Either way, it's a bit of a trek. Can't understand why anyone would put that much effort in to see such a shit band

Plus there was a guy in my year at school that was obsessed with Libertines, Morrissey, Oscar Wilde, Jack Kerouac and all that crap. He was the most pretentious fuck around, would come in wearing winklepickers lmao

My son travelled around on an early Libertines tour with them, helping his friend making a video of them.

Despite the regular exposure to their music it wasn't my biggest worry I have to say...

I can't my finger on what it is, but I do turn off when LL is on but keep with it when Nemone is on. I think I may well be in the wrong on this one though!

There isn't a right or wrong which is why I don't contribute to this thread much. I have accepted that I am not the great arbiter of taste. Me not liking something doesn't mean that it's bad just that it doesn't click or connect with me for whatever reason. I prefer to shout up about the things I love rather than complain about what I don't. I get more than my share of negativity from politics and in the rest of my life I prefer to just celebrate the things I love as much as possible.

Be more like GP 🙂

Do you not enjoy the discussions around it though?  Ultimately I like what I like and I don't knock stuff I don't, but I love the conversation around stuff like this

In one on one conversations sure. If someone says do you like the new x album I will absolutely give my opinion (and I can be brutal) but I try my very best not to online. The most I'll tend to say is it's not for me. I don't connect with it. I slip up occasionally I'm sure if you trawl every post I've ever made I will have done. But about 2 years ago I made the decision that I only have time for so much negativity and to focus that on politics (even with that I try not to go for personal insults). I saw some posts on Twitter both from artists I appreciate and artists that I don't that made me realise that it can't be nice if you google your name and see some of the horrid stuff out there. At the end of the day nobody goes out to create something awful and most creative people are very sensitive. Me absolutely hating something doesn't make me right. If just one person loves it then what they have created has had a positive impact.

Yes unfortunately a lot of people who end up being famous aren't necessarily built for fame as this story today shows. https://www.nme.com/news/music/chika-announces-retirement-citing-mental-toll-of-the-music-industry-2920182?utm_source=hootsuite&utm_medium=&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign=

I don't know her. I don't know whether I would consider her work to be good or bad but I know I do consider her to be human and people shouldn't have to retire from doing something they once loved because people feel the need to tell her their opinion of her.

I have found the level of devotion to the Libertines quite baffling. And I'm aware people will go to loads of their gigs which is also odd, as I think they largely stick to a very similar set list. The artists I've seen most, Springsteen and Pearl Jam, always mix up the set-lists so in any show you're going to get something unique.

But as odd as that is, I knew a young lady who followed a band on their entire tour of the UK. That band was Bowling for Soup.

Even this?

Yeah even that ... just feels like something I needed to concentrate very hard on to get the message ... I was there as I went along with my brother after he recommended it ... just not something I felt I could relax into ...

Yes, it's not something to relax to, I'll agree with that.

I've seen Kae Tempest three times now and been a blubbering mess by the end each time. In a good way. Would love to see them again.

It’s a strange one ... I also get why people like kae ...but my concentration span is not great ... so not one for me unfortunately...

I just don’t get Kae tempest ... although the lyrics do seem clever ...

Kae is a poet first and foremost, so that’s sort of the point...? Personally I like the music, but approach their stuff like it’s a poem / spoken word anyway.
